Seems a lot for a 1070. You can get a basic 1080 for £520.

No you can't.

Even if you could, that would be 27% more expensive for 0 ( GTA V @ 1080p ) frame advantage to 10-15fps on some games. ( I'd say around 10-15% performance advantage average ).

EVGA FTW is the cheapest decent 1080 I could find and that's £600 the zotac amp ext is £615.

That's 50% cost ( zotac>zotac 1080s ), for 10-15% performance.

Bang for buck the 1070 is a much better proposition.

Nevah. Maybe you saw $620 somewhere :)

If anything the reference blowers have dropped a bit.

lol ECA. I'm in the same boat tbh. with my SLI'd 970's I'm looking at ~40FPS in Dark Souls 3 and ~50FPS in DOOM. WOT have done some kind of micropatch and I've lost my 25FPS advantage and am back on ~60...which is fine except when my G-Sync turns off and I get odd tears and stutters

I'm wondering if I could get a stable 50 à 55FPS on a single 1070, like all the time. in that case I'd be sold.

The question is, one 1080 right away now, or 2 x 1070 in semi-short-succession for future-proof pc-gaming. Can you survive on one 1070 now?

Are Nvidia still more widely supported than AMD cards though or are those days gone?

The one I linked is already factory OCd and one of the highest factory OCs out there as well.

There's been a FEW gameworks games over the past few years that have been shit for amd ( project cars, witcher 3), not too many. AMD has better performance across the board in DX12 games - which are starting to come through. ( Rise of the tomb raider, hitman, etc ) but battlefield one is DX12, so we're starting to see more and more switch over. I think 12-24months and DX12 will be the norm for released games.

Already been mentioned, and debunked.
It's an issue with some motherboards using incorrect settings - not the 480.

Preordered the 1070 amp extreme, it clocks at >1900mhz boost, so 20% over the factory, and requires 2x8pin for the extra power.
Should come damn close to a reference 1080.

do tell how you get on with it plx chumlar. I'm unsure as that edition is "only" 13 euros cheaper than the cheapest 1080 I could find on an NL pricewatch site. that said it's still a hundo and a half cheaper than the average 1080...

Almost fucked my motherboard, yay!

Kids were shouting and yelling and I totally forgot about the clip holding my GTX in place on the board itself, yanked the GTX 780 out a long with the motherboard mount that you plug cards into, bent most of the pins... thankfully it didnt blow up or short out when I turned it on :( having to use one of the other slots for my 480 now.

That makes me sad, it's £150 cheaper than a reference 1080 for me.

pleased with the 480 so far :) going to wait for some more benchmarks before I buy a second 480 for CF though.

That's only the basic model. Proper ones appear to work.
