YOUR first memory in DAoC

I was sitting pondering DAoC today, and was thinking of the first time i played the game, like most things in life learning to ride a bike, your first driving lession, and the first time you lose your.. (i'm not rude ez will finish that bit). You always remember your first everything, what do you remember about when you entered the world of DAoC?

My Memory;

Well it took me ages to download (3 days infact, i had dial up at the time), it was a Friday and i got home early from work. It seemed to take ages to type in the Licence key for beta. I was then greated by the login, create and welcome screen there after. Wow i thought this is much better graphics then other cheap online games out there.

Once the game had loaded i selected a Wizard as my first character. I waited in anticpation for it to load up my new character... Then pop! There i was in a large castle (it was Lethantis as i later discovered), wow! look at this i thought, the npc's looked on me with glaring eyes! lol in my haste i clicked them all frantically reading all the garble hehe! After some reading i found the exit, and dashed down the slop, wow! i kept thinking! this is great... at the time there was very little new player help and i did not fully read coc... i saw a guy hitting a monster so i ran up to him... "hello" i said... sadly he did not reply. So i tried everything to attack that monster (lol yes adding i did not know), and found the f6 button, whack whack!.

"oi get off my monster" he said, "opps, dont we group and attack things together on this game", i replied.

"Aye but i'm solo" he said promptly

"My apologies"... as i ran off into the distance.

seeing my bro in-law pwning the emalgimated (sp?) parthanon as a spearo, was exping there with my 2x NS at the time, made me roll a hero. funny thing is celtic spear made me roll a hero yet i have never specced it.

remember actually the first day too, "popping" at howth as a ickle luwi stalker. he "pl'd" me with damage shield (the buff one) and hotted me after every fight, exping on water beatles when some mage runs past and gives you a damage shield and rushing around killing as fast as we could before the buff dropped. meeting the best group i have met in daoc in triehb calliete (sp?) went on to all join the same guild, got 50 together, tried our hand at rvr. we lost most of the time but it sure was fun game has changed a lot, still play but dont think i get as much out of it these days.

All nighter at a local LAN Cafe borrowed my friends account to try it (this was about 3 months before SI was released) rolled a kobold shadowblade and started up in Fort Atla, ran around killing the stuff outside there till level 6, have a vague memory of killing a pony just up the road from Fort Atla

Starting as a Highlander fighter in humberton. fighting little blue skellies and ants in the hills. i didn't know any of the comands and i clicked my enemy health bar everytime i wanted to hit the mob.. causing me to loose target ofc
So i hit 5 after a while and totally clueless asked another player what to do next.
"go to camelot"
"whah?!"
"the big castle right over there..."
"ohh.. thanks "

The first character I made was a briton paladin on the Prydwen server. I remember starting at the prydwen keep, I ran down the road there down to the hills of camelot. Saw someone fighting a mob and ran and helped them. Of course I got yelled at for stealing exp and all that, only intended to help!

Also managed to get lost in some wilderness. Ran from some bluecon cat aggro right into a camp of hostile dwarves whom I thought was friendly :<

also remember the berserker I played on pryd later on. Thought I had grasped the concept of teh colours on weapons and mobs and all that. So used all my money to buy a purple con two handed axe, although the damage was not notably better, and when questioning someone about it I got told that I should not use the purple con weapons because they would degrade faster. Didnt really understand anything of that so just continued using that weapon

First making my merc on a friends account just before SI was released, had one helluva hard time dodging Mulgrut Maggot, and then attempting to kill the bastard River Sprites, i got to level 4 and gave up cause i couldn't kill things Wish i'd rolled a highlander now, only rolled a Briton so i could start at PK and be close to Camelot

Remember getting pl'ed when i made an armsman later on, i'm level 1 grouping with a level 3 fighter near Humberton, and we kicked the crap outta some skellies ^^

Christmas 2002 possibly? I finally got my first MMO, signed up for it and got it all downloaded (painfully slow on 56k) and got ingame, created my highlander called dukat and wondered around humberton

I'd been used to diablo 1 graphics, so DAoC was like "omg! so lifelike!!!!" I loved the graphics on the game, was amazed by how good humberton castle looked

Then I blundered into the road to camelot and stood - mesmerised - staring at the columns leading to the north cammy gate for the part of 15 minutes, "ohhhhhhh pretty!"

I also found my screenshot button at that point, and never stopped screenshotting since that point, I think I once had a good 4000 screenshots (having to move them to a new folder when I hit 999), still got alot of them:

earliest thing i can remember was xping my ice theurg (yes i was an alb at 1st) near the prydwen keep bridge. and wondering y i cant ffs get my pets to target new mobs after they killed the 1st 1. then a m8 that alrdy played for a bit explained the concept of a theurg pet

got him lvl 22 and rerolled hib ftw ! :worthy:

hah yeah, the first time in daoc. Me and my brother bought an account (we had 1 comp so no use getting 2 accs, and d2 we shared acc's anyway). Hibernia coz a friend of ours played there. i think we rolled a firb druid or a luri eldritch (i remember playing both) and all i wanted to do was to kill mud men, but they were too strong so we died all the time ;( - also remember being lvl 6 on my eldritch and i first time used base light nuke i was like OMG WTF COOL GFX...
one should probably start over in another mmo to get some of the same experience, but i guess it wont ever be the same... getting nostalgic - givf the old pre si days back... when game first was released ;/

I entered the game with a friend from Ultima Online and we were like oh wow, let's make elven rangers cause they're so cool.

Ok, so we made elven rangers and on went the hunt. We killed stuff with out mighty daggers and sooner or later we had that Elven Bow in our hands, with the rox arrows you get from your trainer. It was so fun the first time I held that thing in hands and was like wtf, why can't I go into combat mode with that thing, till someone told me how I had to use a bow. Can't tell you how lucky I was =)

Logging in for the first time with the intention of starting off a character called Amanita only to find that I couldn't have one! So in revenge I picked three names that would be real popular: Silk, Galadriel and Polgara.

Started off in Lethanthis as a lil' Avalonian elementalist (or mage Oo) and ran around killing puppies for a bit while I waited for a friend to come find me and escort me to Prydwen Keep. We died first attempt but managed to get there in the end It's a long run, innit?

starting off in daoc my brother pld me a 24 thuerg so i could rvr to start off the game, i wanted to big boy rvr so i would go to emain in old frontier on the thuerg named killerforlife, i would go around and die 50 times an hour but somtimes fgs would spare me and dance ect, one night i saw a sb kill an alb as he ran off i pet spammed him with stun pets and air pets full bar of pets he charged me i ran, BAM sb died... 1445 rps to a lvl 24 i was rr2!! the sb you might know him as hugmeh or d3f1. LOL

bro was working at computer game shop at time and he could bring stuff home to try.. i tried it.. liked it.. but.. then i thought.. pfft, how hard can it be?

so when i bought full game and account.. i made a stupid char.. lurikeen champion.. i mean wtf? everyone laughed for a long time.. then suddenly.. they didnt. they just /released

then they done grapple nerf.. booooo! was having fun

still though.. lurikeen champ was my first proper char, ml10 and tooled up.. despite the laughing, had lots of fun with her

I dont know about you lot but i also started alb, highlander armsman on prydwen called the Elkinator and the first time you hear the starting music in humberton is great lol I just remember reading the booklet and studying the game for 3 hours got level 5 then leveld with loads of peeps (those where the days) got level 15 rolled another till all char slots where 15 then went camlann (non of you will ever no who i am on there ) was alot of fun the deff a memory not forgetting after a year and abit on camlann made new acount and created this little thing

My fisrt memory was getting 50g off Smellysox on my armsman Dandare and wasting it all on dyes
Also joining my first guild The Black Circle and going to my first meeting at the blue dragon in cam, getting a 99% Breastplate made by Rufus, only to sell it by mistake out of my inventry doh!!!

My 1st memory of daoc was being in Muire Tombs with Toki and some others getting owned cause we was little low lvl

and amazingly a fellow bard took time when i was like lvl 9 and taught me best ways to use mezz and stuff, remember hunting those damn badgers near Howth....

Also remember hunting those Bantams and laugh my ass of that a HUGE fecking rat could sneak up on us and whipe grp hehehe

good old days on hib excal.

first rvr memory was a mid zerg SO big running thru gates at AMG that my cpu frose up and amazingly my lvl 23 champ was still alive lol

i was level 1 magician in mag mell and saw a 50 firbolg bard run past, and noticed how cool his instrument looked and that notes came out of him when he played it. so i deleted it and made my bard instead. but i wasn't in mag mell and it took me ages to get there. then when i got there, joined a group and got to level 11 in the first night of playing. i was really pleased

I remember reading bout daoc in a Game magizine so i rushed to the store and couldnt get it so i kept looking for 2 months then i finally found a copy (Netherlands you still cant find a copy in a store ) Only too find out it was the american version.... I remember rolling contless alb chars on merlin server from scouts, infs friars wizzies and finally a thuerg.... My thuerg so pwned, i remembered grouping up with some kid from chicago and wtf own rat type thingies outside Campecorinth station...

I was in total awe when i saw the graphics of campecorinth for the first time, great building in the midddle of this huge forest. I looked on the included game map to look where i was and i was LIKE OMFG this is soooo huge!!!!
After playing like a possessed eager rabbit humping his first girl rabbit too death and beyond, my free month was over and noone i dared to ask had a credit card so i had too put the game on ice...

I never forgot about it and after i think 2 years or so i dragged some RL mate and some mates i know from LoMM too daoc and we started the funzor again

It is for me when i first played daoc the best game ever since i played Elite on the commedore 64 at age of 7.....

Playing with my m8 over MSN Messenger at 2:30am in the morning as a pair of level 5 n00bs in Avalon Marsh running around in pitch black afraid of our own shadows getting pwnd by level 6 mobs ! LOL

shortly after i made a dark spiritmaster and was astonished at this classes ability to kill things in 3 shots therefore i levelled them to around 11/12 and then i rolled albion and made a paladin to become a knight etc etc i then levelled this thing to 50 taking years, after level 46 or so (si had been released by this point) i would then go on the saturday caer sidi runs just to level, good times and again i had no idea how to spec my paladin so for ages i was 2h without slash or anything

I've loved every minute of my first few days in Camelot had a Scout called Aric Shadows (now theres a npc near sailsbury planes station thingie called Aric ) (was in the shadow brothers) and leveld with a lass could angelheal (iirc) then she got to 50 (damn clerics) and i was still only level 26-30 or something, stopped playing due to not being able to pay for the game (no cc/debit card lol). came back and Re-rolled to Mid excal (iirc) and joined the White Council later Lost Souls of Vallaha (love those guys - they play on Emerald Dream in WOW atm i think)

the rest is history.. well until i lost my account

Begging in camelot around all the crafters was so much funny

If teaspoon is about can you remeber taking my Scout (aric) too the albion frontier and having to bodyguard me (5 people stood around me) through the bogs and so on.

hehe my hunter i had on Excal was given purple spear (begging for stuff from guildies) and i loved it. Charming ants whilst level was so much fun.

Is it just me or was being low level the best days in the game

My cousin already had a 3x paladin and told me they were "cool", so I rolled one of them. Cant remember lvling to 5, just remember being in mithra, then sals giants, broken bridge, keltoi, boogeys, catacombs, pygmies and trees
