England are 8/1 on Betfair to qualify. It's not over, especially if Italy win. I Expect it to drop to about 6/1 if they do.

I thought Spain were finalists material. David Villa still plays doesn't he?

This is all a bit dramatic no one should have expected England to win anything they don't have the team for it. Getting out of the group was even a long shot and so far they have lost to two teams they should be losing to. Too many square pegs in round holes England need to pick who the main man is for the Euros and to start molding the team around him.

Not sure many did but fact is the team still looks problematic in basic areas.

I said at the start they would lose vs Uruguay (I got the Italy result wrong, we lost instead of drawing)

I would like to see the latest shambles actually wake the FA up and realise that English football is fucked from the ground up. I know it won't though.

Germany did 10-15 years ago, now look at them.

FIFA needs a complete spring clean. So corrupt. And they champion fair play.

for the last game he should play his euro 2016 11. I.E Shaw, Sterling, Barkley and Lallana all to start, Gerrard is done after the world cup any way and as we're out no point playing him, Rooney is an overrated piece of shit that should be hoofed out the team. Welbeck occasionally shows glimpses of some talent, but doesn't justify a starting place. IMO Micha Richards should be first choice right back but I've said this for about 6 years :(. Either way Euro 2016 qualifying squad shouldn't have anyone in it that isn't going to paly in 2018 WC. start thinking 2 tourneys ahead and get them playing together now. Only exceptions are where there is no obvious replacement coming through, like CB etc.

All this talk sounds so familiar.

Start the 2016 team if Italy don't beat Costa Rica.

Rooney gets to much stick, he is still the best we have. Idiots to think otherwise, pointless media and fans in this country live to vilify our hero's.

He hasn't been mentioned in the last 3 pages and he does well considering he has been played out of position, but it's just when other strikers get a chance in on goal the top players hit the back of the net; where as Rooney is englands 4th best goal scorer in the world cup (with 40 iirc) ....but has only 1 goal AT the world cup finals it self considering he's had a couple opportunities the last few games?

How many World cups and Euros would you like us to give Rooney? He scored a goal last night but would any of the other strikers have missed that sitter?, would any of the other possible strikers actually scored the other opportunities he had, would they have been able to create more?

We seem to have little passing ability in the squad, if you watch other teams, they have players who can't necessarily shoot, get past players etc, but they pass in tight situations, and get goals - Suarez isn't amazing, himself. His co-operation with his team is amazing

Don't get me wrong I have no great love for Rooney but that's just daft, he was involved in both goals in both games. I'm glad for him he's broken his duck but it's too little too late.

point 1- i dont follow noddy ball, never have, so bear that in mind
also point 2 - im not trolling, im honestly wondering

wouldnt we do better in international events if we cultivated more home talent rather than renting foreigners ? seems a bit silly to me

Well the teams buy the best available. There are very few English players up to the task of playing top flight football.

The whole system needs to be shut down and started again, from kids right up to academies and the youth system. We are going round in circles at the moment. Everyone bangs on about building for the future and all that shit but we aren't, they have said the same for the last 10 years.
We have a team of OKish players that are never going to win anything. The defense is a joke and I can't really think of many players coming through that will make any difference whatsoever...maybe Luke Shaw and Kyle Walker but no CBs

Fuck it. Drop the entire old guard, Gerrard, Rooney etc, they have had enough chances to do something and have pretty much failed to deliver at every point. Big woop, Rooney got a tap in that I could have scored, he didn't exactly dazzle for the rest of the game.

It's the same issue with Ice Hockey in the UK - the teams are heavily reliant on import players from Canada, USA and Nordic countries where they have kids in skates as soon as they can stand. The UK talent is decent, but it's nowhere near the skill level to make it on the international stage, so naturally Team GB's ice hockey team is dogshit in the face of even average teams that put out decent local talent (France etc.).

so surely the best thing to do is start cultivating at home, accept losing early next 2 times round them become a contender nation?

but i presume there too much money involved in the internal stuff that people wont upset ?

Probably something to do with the massive investment required.

Need to change a few laws as well. Other countries young players are allowed to train a lot more. Also coaching courses in this country is expensive and out of date.
