eg: I back spain in a footy match. Spain wins, bet wins. Spain loses or teams draw bet loses.
I lay spain in a footy match. Spain wins, bet LOSES. Teams draw or spain loses, bet wins.

BTW, I also layed spain to win group B, which they have not done
