Ouch - USA scored so we are runners up most likely playing Germany...

Good to see them through, but what I saw in the second half was still messy, maybe they were just holding for a 1 - 0 win?

if we cant beat germany then we aint gonna stand a chance against argentina or spain tbh im glad we get germany or should get germany :)

if we can beat a good team like germany then its game on, ghana is an unknown which prob why they done so well up to now, least with germany we get a team we not only have history with but one we have experience with it could take our game to the next level which is whats needed to compete with spain argentina.

As I predicted, USA top the group, England second. Here's hoping Ghana draw with Germany (because I think we can beat Serbia at a pinch and I can't see them losing to the Aussies).

Chipper; Ghana are hardly an unkown, the cup of nations displays African football to the world, and the top European leagues are flooded with African footballers.

I think I'd rather play germany than Ghana tbh, we'd be massivly up for it against ze Germans.

This needs quoting for posterity

You should be thanking me - its like the opposite of when a commentator says x is playing really well and then they screw up.

Plus he really did start poorly but massively improved - watch the first 15mins

Yeah, i'd hope that if we were to play Germany then the rivalry would inspire the team to greater effots.

We shall see - I'm slightly conflicted as I predicted England to be runners up then go out to Germany but I think we have the beating of them - will be a legendary game :)

It could be a good boost to know that they face Germany or it could be slaughter.

Great win, but I still saw massive flaws in the team setup that will be exploited by better teams.

It was a much improved performance. Rooney and Lampard still have a lot more to give. Shape looked better with Gerrard sticking to his role this time. Defoe was invisible apart from his two chances, but that is the nature of the beast -- certainly playing dwarves up front removed the easy option of hitting it long to Heskey.

Two England goals, both set-up by Villa players. Get Warnock in there asap :D

Defoe was invisible, but his single goal was worth more than all of Heskey's blustering over the last two games put together.

I'm still concerned. There was a lot more effort and passion out there but Capello's still getting it wrong.

Much better performance, still a bit shit though. :(

If they do win (and its a big if) it will be despite the manager, rather than due to him, its a shame really.

Might as well say it will be despite Rooney or despite Heskey :p

I do believe now that the only teams to score direct from free kicks are Japan and South Korea.

We can win this. As long as everyone continues to be as shit as they mostly have been...

...and Capello learns that 4-5-1's the way to go ;)

We don't have the players for that formation. No left winger in the squad ... and don't trot out the party "Joe Cole FFS!" line, he's played about sixty minutes of decent football all season and was rubbish against Slovenia.

I also disagree with your statement about Defoe's one goal and being invisible otherwise being better than Heskey's creating one goal and putting himself around a lot. Unfortunately as long as we persist with Rooney in the hope that he'll come to life we appear to have little choice but to go with the Invisible Man up front.
