I bet some of you already know that the World Cyber Games 2001 that will take place in Korea next december will select players from 25 countries.

But are you interested in participating ?

Here's the selection proccess :

- 1st round of local selections based on small lan events and maybe some online leagues.

- 2dr round of local selections played on a big national lan event. From there top players are invited to Seoul.

- The World Cyber Games Competition in Seoul (300.000 $ total cash-price)

What would YOU think ?

I'm not competing since I'm out injured.
I also have lost confidence in the cyber sports.
There is a serious drug issue which the governing body is doing nothing to combat. There is a new breed of cheats in the sport who don't take drugs. Unfortunately more and more competitors are resorting to these tactics to gain an unfair advantage.

I think in and out of competition drug tests should be introduced to find and ban the non drug taking cheats.
It's time the governing body took an active role in dealing with this issue rather than sweaping it under the carpet. It's the only way they can restore peoples faith in this once great sport.

My childhood dreams involved Sarah Greene (ex. Blue Peter presenter), a bath tub and about 10 gallons of Swarfega...

"Cyber" has picked up strange new connotations these days and everyone is using it in branding:

"Cybernetics: The theoretical study of communication and control processes in biological, mechanical, and electronic systems, especially the comparison of these processes in biological and artificial systems."

I fail to see how playing a "game" encompasses this.

Cyberatheletes my left testicle...

I'm sure it will do well though...

:)

I'm sure it will suck royally.

No-one cares about 'cyber-athletics' or whatnot. Its as lame an idea as putting Recycling in the Olympics.

I sincerely hope the whole idea of pro-gaming dies a horrid death.

Online gaming was until the last few years all about fun and friendly competitions until groups like the CPL came to life and are trying to make a profession out of it.

point isn't making a profession out of it as the CPL intends it.

it's just a possibility for gamers and developpers to share their ideas on what would the game look like to be as good as they can.

erm...if the point is NOT making a profession out of it, why the prize money?

Surely that fact in itself indicates that this competition is aimed at the pro-gamers?

imo, pro gaming is shite, "cyberathletics" : christ all mighty, can't be fun can it : Online games are games, not sports. If they were sports, they wouldn't be fun to play. If they was not fun, people would not play them. Cyberathletics is a moronic attempt to kill it.

So pld Kryt / Emb :)

Clearly the fact you can both see that Pro-gaming would (is?) ruin the fun of games puts you above the rest of the sheep and fanboys

(OMG HAKEEM!!!!!!!11111111 etc)

I kiss many things...the wife, the boss's arse (only if she asks nicely), my cat (no tongues).

But no I do not "kiss" football...

...stop avoiding my question...if it's not a "pro-gaming" competition, why is there the prize money?

Answer that and stay fashionable.
