i was under the impression that alot of people in here dont like the answers from the head office 'suits', i was stoking up discussion. Anyway,

1. do you have to work for game to be a moderator?

2. how do i know with the mods or whatever if they work at game towers or not?

3. can Game know who you are by knowing your IP address? (IP: logged thing) (sorry for the stupid noob questions!!)

Why do you want answers about GAME.net from store staff who are emplored to sell games in boxes? They are separate parts of the organisation?

On a more general note:

Is anyone else starting to find these threads really draining? I think what narks me the most, is that somewhere in the middle of this thread is a really positive discussion about how to open the servers up while still maintaining the benefit of subscription. Frankly, I'd be suprised if Game see it now, what with egotistical morons spouting on about the same trodden paths of customer service bollocks and other issues with their cock size.

Basically: If you care about this being a sucess, can we please be civil and constructive? If you don't care about this community being a success again, could I request, on behalf of everyone, that you piss off.

1) No

2) Ask them

3) If you did something illegal they could go to court and get your ISP (maybe) to hand over your details.

its ok for you mate, if you worked for game you would realise how terrified they make you feel about bucking the company line, get a part time job at a branch and you will see the other side of the happy smiley faces.

you want answers?? i can give you bloody answers mate, i can tell you how much of a hard time game is having with game.net, our first mistake was renaming it from "barrysworld". the truth is the servers are empty cos noone wants to pay, its human nature. Why pay for sumthin when u can get it for free?

the trouble is free server models wont last forever. Someoene has to look after the servers, and these people want to get paid.

Why do you think Phantasy Star Online on the Dreamcast was free, but Sega now charges 6 quid a month to play on the gamecube and Xbox versions? Cos Sega almost bankrupted themselves propping up the dreamcast during those years, and now they need money. SURPRISE!! I know its a console game but the point is still valid. A server is a server. it doesnt look after itself, somone has to be paid to look after it.

we wud all love barrysworld or game.net to be free, yes. it would also be great for all PC games to be 9.99, but its not viable.

okay its a fair cop, ill stick to one thread. its a bit 'chicken and the egg' you feel that you have to reply to everything!

in answer to the other question, no , not really disgruntled just that i think ppl should be given truthful answers about game.net and game in general, and the huge difference between the perception of game and reality.

i dunno why, but it seems ur arguing something that we're not even arguing about... and still ur just saying things we all know already

OK this thread seems to have got a bit negative again, and anyway I think I have the ideal solution.

Basically the servers should be open to everyone, but non subs should get kicked when their scores get too good. Easy.

This would mean that us just-about-competent players would have a ready supply of ego massaging good scores, and the good players who kept getting kicked would want to sub just to get in on the noob killing action.

We all win.:D

Basically what would happen is that when a non-subs kill/death ratio got better than 3:1 the following message would be displayed:

We are sorry, you are no longer acting as cannon fodder for the Barrysworld Regulars, and will be kicked. To carry on shooting fish in a bucket please logon to Gamenet.com and subscribe.

It must work for HL and its mods, cos UK2 (/spit) have been doing something similar for years.

there were some intresting ideas so why not mix and match them?

heres a couple of thoughts that sprang to my mind

1] make the servers free to the public but you must have subs to use the bookable servers, webspace, email address and fast ftp

2]make 1 server for each game public (with higher pings) but then advertise subs i.e

console:get GAME.net subs for lower pings :)
Good iea, but scrap the bit about pings! Until everone has gone pay to play, BW servers will stay empty :( . I have just subscribed - £10 for 3 months, cheap - but I am doubting the worth of it so far, 'cos the servers are empty! Just before game owned bw, the servers were the most lively on the net! wtf?

edit:
console:Get Game.net subs for bookable servers, happening league servers, webspace for your clan ;-]

Also, rename servers back to barrysworld :D They were good then :(

An earlier thread (sorry, can't remember who started it) discussed the idea of ISP's being lent the services of Game (or something to that effect) If a certain number of servers were made public, ISP's could be brought in on the act as a sort of portal to game.net, maybe offer speacial deals on subscribtions to new broadband users and such.

Well, it makes sense in my head anyway, sort of...

As in 'subscribe to <this isp> & get access to game servers'? hmmm matbe?

Would need public publics to get ppl interested imho.

Dont get me wrong. I flog my dod games every thursday like a mad bloke. I go to other irc channels to try to drag people onto the server. I post on here .
Who turns up ? Normally one or maybe three of the newish good people who play half life mods, and the rest are almost entirely my clan mates. And thats over the whole period, not all at the same time.
It does my head in :/

But what is DoD?

I will renew my membership for two reasons

1) The FTP access, I can get all the patches and mods straight away. A fileplanet subscription would cost me a lot more.

2) The bookables. The group of people I play with (wouldn't call us a clan) don't have a server and it's a great way to have a bash once a week.

£14 a year isn't a lot for that IMHO.

If I could find some decent servers, with good admins, along the line of the BF one I tend to use at the mo, then that would be a bonus.
