As people stated before, I think it really really depends on the type of girl. One of my ex's I wouldn't have done it to because she seemed frigid (or shy...) on the whole sex stuff whereas my gf atm is a lot more non-frigid (harhar).

And even though I only talk from the glorious teenager years, I'm guessing this idea continues a bit in later life.
