The OP said:
Whisky refers to the Scottish.

is that so ?
and here I thought whisky was mearly the way it was spelled
in roughly All other countries exept Ireland and The states.

they point was,
we know what he ment, so who cares if he writes it whisky or whiskey
he already told us he wanted scottish.

I know that.

There are other countries that use Whisky as the spelling, but when you're asking for Whiskey it's Irish and American.

The reason I am stipulating this point is that the OP said he knows fuck all about Whisky buying, so I am helping him by advising him to use the correct spelling when looking online otherwise he could end up looking at the wrong thing.

I am helping him. You on the other hand are not helping and are close to being deliberately obtuse, so kindly back off.

You just came off abit, well ponzie.

Guess it's down to OT-Syndrom "always expect the worst, then gradually adjust"

whats this back you speak off though ?
I don't do back hair extractions!
you'll really need a profesional for that-

Was it the highland park 25 year old that you bought your brother for his wedding, then sneakily snuck back home with you? That stuff was lovely.

pfft he *gave* it back as otherwise it would get swilled. cask strength though o0

Wich are all owned by the 1 company :p
not sure i'd agree they best represent their perspective regions.
Speak for yourself.
Apart from my obvious horn for Lagavulin, I also very much like Talisker and Oban. I also like Tobermory, partly for the blue glass bottle that it comes in, but also because it's very pleasant.

Right, to all the scottish people around! Im currently in Glasgow, studying. I need to bring christmas gifts back to three familymembers, who are kinda crazy about smokey ( peated? ) whisky's. I think they tried a few Obans, and Laphroiag. I would like to bring something SPECIAL back to them, pricerange 30-40 for each bottle. An old one would be great. Is there some private distilieries around that have some cool stuff, or where do I look? I live in West end, glasgow.

To brake it down,
with [Classic Malts of Scotland]
You have

- Dalwhinnie = Highland
(for me Dalwhinnie more resembles a spey, thus to me,
not all that charactoristic of a highland, I'd rather say
f.exp Old Pultney or say Clynelish )

- Talisker = Isle of skye
(well ok, dont know if I'd call this it's own region,
but lets maybe say Islands minus Islay, and thusI'd say Probably Highland park)

- Cragganmore = Speyside
(Great whisky btw! but again not sure I'd call it the best representitive of the region,
as ehre we find some Huge! players like Glen Livet, Balvenie Glenfiddich, Macallan,
The list goes on and on but due to stay loyal to history, I'd say Glenlivet)

- Oban = West Highlands
(not really a region, but ok sure this one I'll accept )

- Glenkinchie = Lowland
(Here I see giants like Rosebank and Auchentoshan that spring to mind)

- Lagavulin = Islay
(well tricky one here, I love a good dip into the scrapings of an old used pipe as much as the next bloke, but!
Lagavulin is easily the most Heavily bodied of the Islays "as a whole" sure the other make single distils that might
have higher ppm's ect but still, I'd actually say Ardbeg or Laphroaig is what most assosiate with islay how ever!
and this might be abit contriversial, but if you ask me Bowmore or even Caol Ila are actually more representative
of the bulk of whisky comming out of Islay)

anywho,
thats simply my take,
there be no right or wrong really, as it's down to individual taste
but you might also notice a region missing from the series wich is campbeltown,
as diageo dont own anything in that region. and well here it's an easy pick ;)

How about something that your ordinary drinker wouldn't know about?
Caol Ila Cask Strength is a good example. It retails for £35-£40 and is rare enough for most people not to have heard about it.
