I am getting pissed off with Nokia refusing to announce the release date of the 920 so I may pre order the HTC 8X, just bothered that the camera on the 920 is going to be awesome and I will be stuck with a less than awesome camera on the HTC (camera is important, kids and stuff....you know......my kids not kids in a Saville way).

Before anyone bangs on about Windows phones and how shat they are, well, I wasn't impressed with Android, thought it was over rated so nurr

You don't need a great camera when you have big hands and upper body strength.

Wait for the Nokia, I have a gut feeling it is going to be well worth it.

defo getting the Nokia 920, absolutely love my Lumia 800. I like the new tile system on WP8 some tiles look smaller so wondering if you can resize tiles to suit your needs?

Windows Phones lulz. What a complete waste of time. Says it all that MS make more money off Android than their own abortion of a mobile phone OS.

Anyone here who has owned a SGS2 played with the new Samsung Note 2? I'm hearing the camera on the Note2 is a bit of a disappointment & the pixel density could be sharper...?

HTC's new phone J Butterfly offers a 1.5Ghz quad-core Snapdragon processor, a 5 inch screen, 1920x1080, 440 ppi density (Apple's Retina display only manages 1136 x 640 @ 326 ppi, while the S3 has 306, and the Note2, a measly 267 (WTF?!)). 8 MP rear, 2.1 MP front camera. Only 16GB internal storage, expandable by a further 32 via micro SD card. 2 GB RAM. Ships with JellyBean. Battery not as good as the Note2, with 2020mAh compared to Samsung's 3100. Quite how long the battery lasts coping with a full HD display remains to be seen.

Get ready for full HD screens in the near future.

Specs are very impressive, I have a few friends who were disappointed with a hands on with the Note 2 so this could be great alternative and its a looker.

I am looking forward to reading everyone point out how pointless the display is like they have done with the Apple Retina display saying the pixel density is impossible to notice :)

It will be, however I'm sure it will look lush on the bigger screen. The same way the retina display is needed on the ipad, but totally wasted on the iphone :)

A month ago I couldn't wait to get a Note2. Now, reading more on what ppl are saying about it, I'm really not sure. I like the size and the stylus. Its fast and powerful. You can remove the SD card without removing the battery. But, the display is disappointing (pixel density is a joke, and the colour saturation & gamma are off the scale), the camera isn't all that (slow shutter speed), there's a problem with the stock browser (something about pages not zooming to size correctly), it requires a micro SIM, its gone all S3 on looks (I prefer square corners), and you can't pass the phone to someone without pushing one of the soft buttons on the screen.

I think I'm going to stick with my S2 for now, and see what comes out in 2013.

Just popped to a phone shop and had a play with the Note2. Wasn't blown away. Very disappointed. Doesn't live up to the hype.

Its big. Really big. Heavy. Heavier than it ought to be. Its got those round corners and a horrible plastic back, making it look like an old man who's shopped at Top Man. Samsung really need to take a leaf out of HTC's book when it comes to how a phone feels in the hand.

Its blindingly fast. Apart from a larger screen, the graphics seem identical to my S2. Video was just video, and pictures, well, just pictures. They should have delayed its launch by 18 months and released it with an HD display, ahigher pixel density, and sorted the colour calibration out. Ditching the Super Amoled screen would not be a bad idea imo. The colour saturation is really over-the-top.

The S-pen feels like it would break in your hand. Feels cheap. The sort of thing that costs 50p to make and retails for £14.99. And it doesn't click into the phone with a re-assuring snap or pop. It just sort of glides in. I'd give it 2 months before the thing loses traction and starts falling out of its own accord. Who thought sticking a stylus at the bottom of the phone, was a good idea? Does gravity not exist in Korea?

I'm not sure what JellyBean has done to Touch-Wiz but the UI is appalling. The first thing you'd have to do is root it, install a Siyah kernal, and stick an alternative launcher on. But if you replace the launcher, some of the S-pen functions stop working, apparently. Then install something like Titanium Pro and delete all the Samsung bloatware. There's no way I could live with that phone unmodified for longer than 5 minutes.

Definitely sticking with my S2.

They don't need to delay 18 months mate the Note 3 will be out by then. And the Note is not the flagship that is the S3 so it was never going to be a superior phone it should be the same with a bigger screen. Pixel Density ect will be lower. I had a friend waiting 6 months for it who was expecting a super phone but he decided to keep his Galaxy Nexus instead.

I have a NOte 2, well, my Missus does and it's a smart piece of kit. Yes it's big but in this day and age when some people carry phones in bags rather than pockets it is not an issue. I love the power of the thing and the multitasking is pretty darn impressive. Great screen and great features. I like the S-pen but do feel it would work better on a larger device for handwriting.

The basic tariff offers 500MB of data a month, which at 4G or even dual-channel 3G speeds goes in very little time - and it's rapidly consumed on slower connections too. You're looking at 5GB to be safe - which means £51 with a handset or £36 SIM-only.

Happy to wait a while. Thats significantly more than I'm paying right now

Dropped my HTC One S in the washing up bowl last night. Removed instantly, wiped dry, turned off, put it in rice. Got it out this morning and it wasn't working, thought well fair enough and as a last try put it on charge. Lo and behold, it is now working again. Seems to be absolutely fine, touch wood. Impressed!

The Nexus 4, btw, has a HSDPA+42. Which is 42Mb/s GSM. LTE is 300Mb/s.

HSPA+ is supported by Three O2 and Vodafone afaik, LTE is only EE.

Due to the new nature of LTE the speeds you'll get on the current gen chips wont break much beyond hspa+. They also nom battery like its going out of fashion due to the 7 (seven!) antennas used to create a connection.

So the new Nexus should give you 42Mb/s in most cities on HSPA+ enabled providers.
I'm a bit concerned about the outer shell of the Nexus4. Glass front and rear looks nice but the edging is what i'm thinking about, i can't tell if its plastic or a oxodised metal like the One S/X. Probably plastic which is a shame.

Still excellent price for the phone. I'm in two minds about getting one now or waiting a while and seeing if a 32gb version comes along..... One S is doing fine atm, will see if 4.2 gets ported rapidly or not!

So, so we think that "Pixels Per Inch" is the new PMPO (or megapixels...or GHz....you get the idea)? An essentially meaningless number which has to be increased every product cycle for marketing reasons. The joy of 18 Megapixel cameras with sensors the size of a gnats bollock and lenses made from the bottoms of Newcastle Brown bottles.

The first thing I look at with any mobile device is the manufacturers record with pushing updates, followed by storage space and expansion, followed by how easy it is to root.

I don't give a monkey's anus about updates. Firstly, because I'm on Giffgaff which means I can never get over-the-air updates, and secondly, I'm actually quite happy with 2.3.4 stock Gingerbread. Everything works. Zero lag. I really don't feel I'm missing out on anything. Memory...I've had my S2 for over a year and still got over 28 Gigs free. I do use photo editing and the camera a lot, so for me, my next bit of kit will have to have a lovely screen with decent colour calibration and better ppi than the S2.

You should get OTAs direct from the manufacturer then, as you have an unlocked unbranded phone.

The only updates I could ever get for my Giffgaff S2 would have to be manually patched using Odin or Clockworkmod. No OTA's. Ever.

You've got a rom on it tho dont you?

You wont get OTAs then. Because your not running stock...

Nexus sounds like the way forward for me in the future. Software updates unhindered by network operator meddling as soon as they come out.
I've had my S3 for nearly 6 months and it's pretty decent at everything I throw at it. The one thing that's pissing me off is the image burn-in on the screen. I can see a shadow of a menu button in the corner of the screen in everything I use. Apparently it's something of a common complaint.

Really??

I don't have any image burn on mine. And I'm always using it.

Is it a specific app that's caused that?
