I struggled with book two of the soldiers son trilogy, I found it went off in a direction that didn't really take my fancy.

That said the live ship traders trilogy and the royal assasin trio were brilliant. The first of her new trilogies is out now also.

Robin Hobb is weird, I loved the Assassin and Fool trilogies but the Liveship and soldier's son ones were just tedious

Currently reading Kafka's Amerika but no doubt that's wasted on your fantasy fags. :D

After being seriously impressed with how Brandon Sanderson handled taking over The Wheel of Time I decided to take a look at his other works and found Mistborn. It's a very well written, fast paced and enjoyable trilogy with lots of intresting characters. I highly recommend it to anyone who likes fantasy.

It also gives me high hopes for his next book series that launches at the end of the month - The Stormlight Archives, this man is like a machine - releasing two full fantasy books in one year.

In the last couple of weeks I've read this:

And Another Thing ...: Douglas Adams' Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy: Part Six of Three Hitchhikers Guide 6: Amazon.co.uk: Eoin Colfer: Books

This:
The Fuller Memorandum (Laundry 3): Amazon.co.uk: Charles Stross: Books

and this:
The Storm of War: A New History of the Second World War: Amazon.co.uk: Andrew Roberts: Books

First was...not Douglas Adams. Second was excellent as ever from Charlie Stross, and third was well written but told me absolutely nothing new. I now have absolutely nothing to read and nothing in particular on my "to read" list, which is unnerving me.

The locke lamora books are more than a trilogy, I think its planned as 7.

Seeing as people wouldn't STFU about the Wheel of Time series of books (and the Song of Fire and Ice too for that matter) I decided to check them out. Just about to finish book 4, must say I'm really enjoying them.

Despite playing DaoC for so long, it's my first foray into fantasy literature, but it's really very readable. I must admit the blurb on SoFaI sounded a bit more like the roleplayers of Albion type stuff that I was expecting, but maybe I'm doing it a disservice. Regardless I shall give that a go at some point too. :)

Some time ago I was browsing in Waterstones and spotted this:

I've long since lost my original copies so recently bought it again. Dated somewhat (well the first Stainless Steel Rat novel was 1961) but still great fun.

They are both great. The way its going though, WoT may actually be finished before the 5th Ice and fire book is out (they've put it back ANOTHER year). I get the feeling that Dance with Dragons may go the way of Duke Nukem and never be finished.

Finished them recently aswell. Very entertaining! Shame he had to die suddenly as he had a few more in the pipeline.

Anyone know if the films are any good? Saw an advert for the second one today.

The Left Hand of God - Pal Hoffman, really enjoying it so far abuot 3/4's of the way through.

Finished The Magicians Apprentice - Trudi Canavan (stand alone(ish) prequel to the Magicians Guild trilogy)

Personally I though it was horrible, I felt no attachment to any of the characters, and she seemed to kill important people off without so much as an explanation or any fall out from their deaths. There was indepth chapters on people who had no real need to be mentioned in the story at all, and after it had finished I didn't have a fooking clue what she had been smoking while writing it.

It was meant to give me an insight into how the guild was formed, and to be honest I could have imagined it better than the two sentences I got from her explaining it.

It felt rushed and I was left very unhappy!, because the guild trilogy had been really interesting and I am now dubious about her new follow on books from said trilogy!

Aldous Huxley's Brave New World.

It's got some massive fucking forward on it which looks like it's going to explain to me how I should feel about the story before I read it. So I'm skipping that and going straight on into it - I want to decide for myself how to feel :)

The first film was pretty good, true to the book (if a bit rushed through). The actress who plays Salander nails the character.

Just started reading "otherland" by Tad Williams, picked it up at a charity book stand. It's the future, 50p for a hardback book, yes sir!
