Glad to see everyones getting in with the Culture series. Amazing set of books. Use of Weapons and Look to Windward are the best. But all of them are good.

Re-reading Dune again at the moment :) The favourite book in my bookshelf

Toll the hounds is very good, not quite the direction I expected it to go in but very good! I'm reading the black company series atm.

Just finished last colony by John Scalzi, which was pretty good.

Not bad but they soon become formulaic - I'm reading John Wyndham's The Midwich Cuckoo's - pretty good but my favourite of his work is 'The Kraken wakes' - one of the best apocalyptic books ever IMHO.

The most recent culture book (Matter) was good but left me feeling slightly disappointed. Don't be restricted by his culture novels though. I love re-reading Feersum Endjin (give it time people read past the first chapter and go back, all will become clear) and The Algebraist is awesome.

Still have curse of the chosen to read. He's a good author, but he can get bloody depressing!

Just finished reading The Last Wish, by Andrzej Sapkowski. It's the first Witcher book that's been translated into English from Andrzej's native Polish. It was pretty good tbh, and I finished it in 2 sittings.

Moved onto Keep it Real: Quantum Gravity Volume 1, but have only got a chapter or three into it so far.

Meant to pick up the witcher books at some point, how are the translations?

The quantum gravity books are fairly fun, finished selling out recently.

There's just that one book translated so far. There's another out next month, so I'll definitely be picking that up.

Currently working my way through the first 3 volumes of Absolute Sandman and re-reading Watchmen.
Next I'm going to re-read all the Narnia books as I saw them for £9 over Asda :)

I just got 5 books from amazon through the letter box, toll the hounds obviously which has me hooked already.

Amazon.co.uk: Fatal Revenant: The Last Chronicles Of Thomas Covenant (Gollancz S.F.): Stephen Donaldson: Books Been ages since it was released and just never got round to buying it.

The 2nd and 3rd Dark Tower books as I had them stolen in a bag last year and need to know what happens to Roland. And the Night of Knives Malazan novel. Thats my travelling time taken care of for a while, no Metro for me!

Toll the hounds was (as usual) 800 pages of filler and 100 pages of action at the end.

Still it was a good ending, especially the whole thing about Rake

The storylines with Harlo, Clip/Nimander and Gaz could have been left out or shortened drastically though.

Anyway need something new to read now...

Edit; Ch3tan the Dark Tower books are the biggest waste of time you'll find in fantasy and the ending of the last book is such a disappointment that it's almost physically painful. I went through the entire series thinking "The ending MUST be good" after this setup.... It's simply the biggest Deus Ex Machina I've ever seen in a book followed by a big "F*ck you" from King. If I could compare it to LoTR:

(Only read if you've finished the Dark Tower)
Imagine frodo got to mount doom, he enters inside and.... the book ends. There's a bunch of drivel from the author saying "stop reading here and use your imagination, or read on if you want" So you read on and Frodo discovers he's actually left the ring in a drawer in the shire and is transported through time to b ilbo's party to start again.

Read them as a child, then tried to re-read them as an adult, and couldn't stand them!
