Imagine us vs Russians. We'd collapse in 2 hours. Our armed forces are poorly/under equipped, and quite small in size. We couldn't defend a chicken pen.

Yeah like @Raven said we got your back bro.

How are you with a NLAW?

That's an inflamatory assumption. We don't know why the Lancer went down.

We do know the rescue helicopter sent after it also went down, due to weather. All 5 military personnel on board of the rescue helicopter are dead. No word on the Lancer still, further rescue aircraft scrambled.

I mean, does bad weather cause a "huge explosion" because thats whats reported to have been seen when the plane went down. Just seems odd to me given how close Russian is to this atm.

30% commission on buying foreign currency now. Feeding the war machine from public panic.

Yes, let's just let them win...

You build your armed forces around perceived threats. Russia's army is not a threat to us, so there's no need to spend money defending against something that'll never happen.

Mind you, our air and navy would almost certainly make pretty short work of anything ever sent our way. Those 24 F35's are very formidable, as are the type 45 destroyers.

I think Osy is talking about Romania's defences, and Russia's army is definitely a threat to them, which is why they joined NATO.

...and like people keep saying, Russia needs to be stopped in Ukraine, the wheels are literally falling off their vehicles in the mud, that's why this massive column is stalling. In the spring it will start moving again, we need to annihilate the Russian economy, so they can't even pay their, already demoralised, soldiers.

In the meantime, if possible, some quick raiding parties.

Ah well if you're in Romania you'll be fine, since the entirety of NATO and the EU has your back. Putin wouldn't dare, his forces wouldn't last a week.

"Putin wouldn't dare" doesn't carry the same weight it did a few weeks ago imo.

If he did dare its all over. Biden was unequivocal about NATO borders in the State of the Union Speech the other night. Of course if I was Finland I'd be really fast tracking that NATO application form right now.

They already violated Swedish airspace. Sweden should do the same.

Sure, but its not as urgent, Sweden doesn't have hundreds of miles of border with Russia, Finland does.

There was some ex navy chief on the news the other day stating our navy is no where near good enough to take on the russian fleet due to years of cuts. He claimed none of our destroyers are capable of combat currently and we are woefully low on jets.

I dont know how true this is, but thats what he was claiming

It's completely true, but America will carry us in that regard and I guess they will in every way.

They do it all the time, probably just reminding everyone that they haven't forgotten about their Baltic neighbors

They'll want Finland, Romania, Georgia and Moldova, in no particular order, next. But I think they will fall apart against a well armed, well-fed Ukraine resistance. People are defending their home, vs conscripts who just want to go home.

The situation in this documentary still hasn't changed with time:

You know what you'll never hear from British Admirals or Generals in press interviews? "Everything is fine". Every conversation with the media is a funding discussion and its been that way for decades. In relation to what he said; "none of our destroyers are capable of combat at the moment"; he forgot the rest of the sentence "...in very hot climates". There's an issue with the Type 45 generator system in extreme heat which is being retrofitted at the moment, but the ships are still on ops and would work fine in European waters. Low on jets. Queen Elizabeth is at combat strength since last year. Prince of Wales isn't, but it wasn't supposed to be. The RAF are in the process of withdrawing 24 early build Typhoons (out of 139 active) so lower than the RAF would like, but not really a disaster (the Luftwaffe on the other hand...yikes). The problem with all this stuff is that if you start a shooting war, you can't replace any of this stuff quickly, and that's the real weakness of all the European militaries, that there's not much behind the first few weeks of operations, but, that's probably true for the Russians as well; they have far less useable gear than they've been boasting about and they're burning through it like a drunken sailor. Now, it looks like they didn't bring their A-list equipment to Ukraine, probably thinking they might need it if there was a NATO military response, but if they carry on chewing through tanks and APCs the way they are, any NATO conflict will be down to both sides throwing rocks at each other in about a fortnight,.
