Lol. That single issue being the temperature record
There are a lot of temperature records.

I know your scientific background is mostly just reading New Scientist

BSc Environmental Management & Technology.

Turned down the PhD offer as there's not enough money as a career scientist to live properly.

Get the fuck out with global warming in this thread, go derail something else.
You don't think a scientifically illiterate climate change denier who's censoring publicly funded scientists with a political filter being voted president belongs in this thread?

The US election could be a terrible turning point for mankind on this front.

but take it from someone who's actually been involved in scientific research - that is not scientific in the slightest.

Trying to work out if you should buy a Sony WM-R707 or a 701C is not scientific research.

Conversely, it does make me laugh when you try to boil down the totality of climate science, comprising tens of thousands of painstakingly conducted worldwide studies, to a single tinfoil-hat-based issue, like that's the only thing that matters.

I stand by my original statement and find it substantially bolstered by your subsequent response :)
Tens of thousands of studies is a bit of an exageration imo. Show me a list of ten k studies let alone multiples.

There may be lots of people working on it. But i suggest there are in the hundreds of studies that are peer reviewed and have credible reproducable data.

It isn't tens of thousands of studies into "climate change". It's tens of thousands of studies on wholly different topics that, when looked at as a whole, suggest the climate is warming.

It does make me laugh when you suggest it's scientific, or in anyway verifiable. To do this, you need raw access to the temperature data, so your mission, is to get in touch with Gavin Schmidt at NASA and get a copy of the raw data, so we can recreate his findings.

Let me know how you get on.

that's really easy Bods. your own MET office has published 150 years of raw data. you can compare that against GISS and let us know.

Give it twenty years and global cooling will be back in vogue.

But i still think that it isnt conclusive. Cause we just dont have data over a long enough period to show that all the warming is made by man or its just a naturally warmer part of the earths life and we have a dded slightlyto it. 150 years is nothing in geological terms.

Um. Wrong topic?
White House press secretary says border wall will be funded by 20 percent import tax on Mexican goods
Pretty sure that would violate NAFTA.

And before anyone says Trump wants to renegotiate that anyway, it would need to be agreed by all parties. That's how trade deals work.

He's clearly going to repudiate NAFTA, even without Congress (difficult to know which we'll they'll jump - populism or greed?); apparently he could even do it unilaterally, although that would lead to a legal challenge.

Bingo.

Given there isn't much we can do either way, and unless he starts lobbing nukes at China, whatever he gets up to is unlikely to affect us too much, so I'm just going to sit back and watch it all unfold. The meltdown and hysteria so far have been fucking hilarious, and long may it continue.

Ah. Explains a lot.
Interesting tactic. Diss my scientific credentials, have them provided, balk at them so equate them to swampy, because that's all you have left...

Playing the man, not the ball. Because you know playing the ball loses you the argument every time.

Just more evidence that my original assertion was correct:

You Bodhi - definitely you in a nutshell said:
after 5 or 6 years looking at the data used by both sides of the debate, and giving undue weight to the side of the debate that appeals to me emotionally whilst poo-pooing the 99% of verified scientific findings that say otherwise, I'm still not convinced

:)

You've pretty much played the man for the last two pages, no need to get all pissy when I return the favour :)

Not at all. I discussed the fact of your refusal to take a wide range of scientific studies into account and your seeming alignment with apparent tin-foil-hattery.

I didn't in any way attempt to convey anything about your actual basic ability to discuss those facts.

But nice of you to admit you tried to do that with me :)

Not sure how that's any different to playing the man though?

Bit strange that you took my comment on your qualifications so offensively however, when the comment was left deliberately ambiguous. Wasn't a comment on the standard of the qualifications in question, more a question of impartiality.

Who exactly thought that globalisation, with all that is involved, was going to go smoothly, it is a disaster waiting to happen...happened.

Yes because the alternative has worked so well in the past.
