What do people make of Mutu's appeal being turned down? Personally , i think its a terrible decision. £15m fine!!! What kind of precedent does this set? It basically says, if one of your players gives you grounds for sacking, you can sack him and then sue him for the transfer fee you paid for him, or even potentially, loss of earnings!!! Fuck me, Ronaldo had better be a good boy or he could find himself being sued for £200m

I hope he goes to the court of human rights and they tell Chelsea were to go.

A load of very over the top rubbish which opens such a pandora's box for all kinds of fine's/legal challenges.

I agree how can they fine him that,if it goes ahead. He'd be better off filing for bankruptcy and asking fiorentina to pay him a minimum wage while putting aside a pot of money for after his bankruptcy period ends.

Mutu breached his contract. In this case, I would imagine it moves into the buisness world, hence suing for loss of earnings, as well as paying back most of the original transfer fee. It seems massive, but it was a massive transfer deal - or a massive financial transaction. They poured a huge amount of resources into him, and he didn't up hold his end of the contract.

but he didnt value himself at £15million

he was earning waht maybe 80k a week maximum (40k after tax) thats only 2million a year after tax? how is he ever goign to pay a £15 million fine? how could that be justified? surely jsut fining him any wages that were paid to him while thier would be sufficent

Hold on now, while I feel Chelski could have handled the situation better (maybe support his rehab?), what they are claiming for is the value of his contract had he seen it out, loss of commercial earnings (from shirt sales etc) and loss of transfer fee. Remember he joined Juve on a free after serving his ban. I do feel that chelsea are entitled to something, and Mutu did dig his own grave. He will never be able to pay the full amount and I am sure that it will be settled with a much smaller pay off.

The loss of any transfer fee is a self inflicted wound though, they shouldn't have fired him then.

I was gonna say Chel$ki decided to sack him they were not forced they should have only been allowed to sue him for the 7 months he was banned then after that it was up to them to let him go.

Really sets up many legal challanges in the future. You are allowed to fire someone then sue them. Nice :p

But i guess it depends strictly on what his contract had within it, any sportsmanship clause would have been breached i suppose thus Chelsea being able to do this.

They choose to let him go on a free transfer though. Personally i think the fine should have been.

Salary for the duration of the period
+
Transfer fee / contract length * ban length.

Further to that maybe add 5% for loss of earnings. Not like mutu was ever going to sell millions of merchandise.

Didn't chelsea originally try to sue Juve for the transfer fee and then sue Mutu after that failed? Also weren't Juve fighting Mutu's corner until they thought they might have to pay out and so offloaded him?

Villa (with lots of reserves playing) beat a diving, cheating Porto 2-1. In the final of the Peace Cup now against either Juventus or Real Madrid. Hopefully RM will win, would like to see Ronaldo back in NRC's pocket.

1-1, christina has just scored on a penalty.

God I hate having american commentators :( They can't see the difference between Ronaldo and Benzema.

lol love the sun,

liverpool to use the £30 mill fro alonso to bid for david villa

ye ok even tho valencia have already rejected £50mill from 3 clubs??

more realisticly tho £15mill for alberto aquilani, which imo would be a good signing

also masherano is staying which imo is a massive boost

also hope city do sign lescott and alex, to go along with toure, cos then richards is unlikely to stay thier in a WC year, and with skrtle injured agger always having niggles and carra getting on plus hypia left the club, richards would be a quality signing

Firstly BBC SPORT | Football | My Club | N | Newcastle | Striker Martins joins Wolfsburg -possibly a missed opportunity for a 10 goal minimum a striker season for the bottom half clubs. Always thought Martins was wasted at Newcastle, and had a lot of potential.

Secondly - Gohan. Villa had a greed 40million Euros deal with Madrid that fell through, but that is about £35million, not £50million. Barca could apparently not agree personal terms with him. Valencia need the cash and £30million is the best they will get now. Although that would mean Gerrard dropping back into midfield and you playing a more traditional 4-4-2

well i really hope its true as torres and villa would be probly the best partnership in premiership history, and i know villa has said that he'd love to play week in week out with torres

also gerrards highest goal scoring season was as a right winger so may see him back out thier again and kuyt jsut behind the front 2, or vice versa, i think it will be more a diamond 4-4-2 either way tho

I'm thinking more of your need to replace Alonso in midfield, Gerrard is your only player with a similar range of passing and ability to attack as well as defend.

well i think the have like 5mill + sales after buying johnson

arbeloa went for like 3.5 and dossena is going for like 4 so i wont be suprised even if we do get villa that we'll still go in for aquilani

How can Arsenal justify those prices with a large stadium and small squad?
