£18m is a lot to play for a back up left back.

Now, im not going to put my neck on the line and say, that Cole is defo going to spain, but what I do know, is that Madrids interest is genuine and contact has been made.

I think that Cole would be very stupid to go, he was one of the most consistent players in the league last season, and is coming back to the form that marked him as a wanted man at Arsenal.

1015: Manchester City look set to sign Bayern Munich's Brazilian defender Lucio after appearing to miss out on John Terry.
Full story: Daily Mail

oooooo Lucio, now that would be a VERY good signing - very similar to Terry, but smarter and less of a thug :p

Also Inter have stated they are no longer interested in Deco and Carvalho.

I don't think Cole will go; what i do think is that the whole club are aware of Ashley's contribution, which often goes unnoticed, and will reward him with a new contract accordingly.

I think Zhirkov will be a good buy, he's the sort of player we've lacked since we got rid of Robeen & Duff and Malouda hasn't really got the same attributes as them.

Apparently Chelsea were asking too much for Deco & Carvalho - Carvalho i'm sort of happy he's staying but hope it doesn't push someone like Ivanovic out the door who was really emerging last season.

Deco i'm guessing will still move on after his recent outbursts in the press, not a player we need either TBH.

took this from Red cafe...

French newspaper L’Equipe claims this morning that Manchester United are set for another shock swoop after the signing of Michael Owen, this time they are expected to complete the transfer of 20-year-old striker Gabriel Obertan.

Bordeaux president Jean-Louis Triaud has said of the transfer: "It’s actually a great opportunity, we would love to see Gabriel evolve at such a club."

L’Equipe add that the transfer fee has not been disclosed but an agreement between the two clubs has been in place for several weeks.

The French newspaper compares Obertan with Liverpool striker David N’Gog who was plucked out of obscurity last summer. Aside from Manchester United, Inter Milan, AC Milan and Arsenal were also interested in Obertan.

Gabriel Obertan is a 20-year-old striker who can play behind the strikers or on either wing. He broke through into the Bordeaux side in 2006/2007 and spent half of last season on loan at Lorient.

Obertan played 16 times for the Ligue 1 champions in the first half of the 2008/2009 campaign and then scored one goal in 15 appearances for Lorient.

IMScouting’s network of scouts in France describe Obertan as "very gifted, he would like to play more often. But his different trainers have protected him and he has not played as much as he would have liked. Obertan is rapid, physical and skilful in front of goal."

Quote from this dood regarding a recent interview with former Liverpool football club legend Ian Rush on the Michael Owen transfer to Manchester United.

Strange story for the Echo to carry. A has-been Newcastle player signs for the Mancs, so what? Nothing of news here, amazed a true legend like Rushie is commenting on how well a new Manc might perform. Nobody reading the echo will want Owen to do well, Ferguson said he wouldn't sell a virus to Real Madrid but he's just signed one from Toon.

If Ian Rash was about these days he would score about 5 goals a season. In fact, I dont think I ever saw him score a goal outside the 6 yard box. You know when you were kids and you used to play cuppies and if you didnt try to win the ball, you just hung around the goal and poked them in, you were berated for being a skilless goal hanger? That was Ian Rash

Arsenal could do with him then, they do everything right til the last 6 yards.

You are right in some regards, he was utterly lethal up close though which you can't say about many strikers these days.

Rushie did make some very good runs into the box and he was lethal. I could never get excited about him as a kid, except that Harry Enfield's "calm down/calm down" characters were uncannily similar to him.

Javier Masherano has told Benetiz he wants to leave Liverpool to join the current champions of Europe, according to my mate at Barca.

Liverpool could be raped if Barca and Madrid put in high bids for Alonso and Mascherano.

As a scouser could you honestly blame Alonso though? He wanted to stay, was clearly your best player after Gerrard and Torres, and had to endure Beneitez whoring him to Juve for a whole summer so that you could get the inferior Barry. With loyalty like that shown to him, I doubt he will give much back.

Mascherano is a weird one, can't see why he would want to leave unless he just does not like playing in England.

Other stories that caught my eye today. Jo going back on loan to Everton apparently. For me Man City are giving a top 6 rival a goal scoring boost here. Talk of Veloso has started up again, wonder if Everton or Villa will be able to afford him this year, he needs to be in the premiership, quality player. Would be a perfect (and better IMO) replacement for Barry for Villa.

Lots of clubs linked with Marcus Berg as well, and Crouch linked with Sunderland and Villa -from what I understand nothing can happen at Pompey at the moment though as they are still in a period of due diligence after the takeover bid?

I've heard Mascherano's wife don't like it in England at all and want to move asap. And i agree on the Alonso bit as well :(
Just hope Benitez don't listen to any bids.

How would Mascherano fit in Barcelona's midfield?

ffs, edited my thread and forum did not save it :(

Few other stories that caught my eye. Man city sending Jo back out on loan to Everton apparently. Would be giving a top 6 rival an advantage IMO, silly move.

Talk of Veloso has started up again, Everton and Villa linked. Wonder if either will be able to actually get him this year. For Villa he would be a perfect (and better IMO) replacement for Barry.

Marcus Berg linked with quite a few clubs, and Crouch as well -although I believe Pompey are still in due diligence and cannot conduct any business at the moment.
