I don't want Owen at all even if he was 100% fit.

Reason being he played for Liverpool through the ranks and turned out to be a crowd favourite etc, it would be like Beckham signing for Liverpool, It's just not right.

Looking like it will go through according to SSN, so the Utd/Liverpool games next season will have that extra edge.

ye it does smart a little that he went to united

but of all the clubs on the table who can blame him, he need to play top class football if he wants to be part of the world cup

and rafa is to blind to see we have no strikers

but i tihnk thiers a personal thing with rafa

as soon as he took over the first thing he did was sell owen

I'll be happy if Owen has a positive influence from the bench, it also gives us cover in case of injuries. Goalscoring wise he has a great record, if he can stay fit (which should be easier outside of Newcastle, their injuries in recent years has been horrific, gotta be some blame to the medical team there) then he could be a very inspired signing.

good riddance to the malingering little shit. if he'd had put as much work into get fit as he did with his horses and helicopters he woulda been a good signing.

Very very suprised, I really couldn't see it happening and yet the deal has been done very quickly. Fingers crossed it works out for us and for him I guess, I feel sorry for the Geordies though as he cost alot of money but never delivered anything like enough to justify the wages and transfer fee.

the whole fitness regime at your club is broken. Allardyce said it and tried to change it but never got the chance, Shearer bought in Dowie to fix it and said it was shocking. Maybe he put no effort in, but then neither did any other member of your squad, barring maybe Taylor.

1540 BST: Former Italy striker Christian Vieri, 35, is set to sign for Blackburn Rovers, according to the Gazzetta dello Sport newspaper.

From the beeb.

what's up with all the Vieri romours? he's off to Boca as well. So is Edgar Davids if you want to believe the journalists.

Personally I think he could do quite well, he couldn't be at a better club for fitness and if anyone can get the best out of him SAF can.

I think Owen will end up much like Sherringham did, a quality striker to come off the bench when needed, smart on a free from Fergie.

Agree with Everz. Owen has been signed to be an impact player, not a regular starter. I imagine that Villa were very interested in bringing Owen in but that it had to be at the right price ... we don't have the capacity to have a high earner who is perenially unavailable, and we already have an injury prone striker in Carew.

Slow day at the office for the sun today? From the beeb

Manchester City are ready to make Chelsea defender John Terry the highest paid player in the Premier League by offering the England captain weekly wages of £300,000.

Meanwhile, Real Madrid are ready to move for fellow Blues defender Ashley Cole who has rejected a new deal at Chelsea.

Looks like Wenger has decided to tie up current players which i think is good, Theo, Fabianski, Ramsey, Wilshire, Gibbs and now seemingly RVP all have new long term deals.

How do you expect someone of Owens class to get motivated at a piss poor excuse of a club.

The sooner Ashley is gone, the better, then Newcastle can start to rebuild from the top down

some people haven't embraced the information machine that is the internet though! (as hard as that is to believe, as Homer Simpson said "computers can do that?!")

Doubt it, Zhirkov has been a target since Hiddink came in; this just provides us with extra depth down the left hand side that we lost when Bridgey left.

I wouldn't expect to see Cole or Malouda leave as a result, just a bit more competition for places.

Yeah Ancellotti made it clear in his press conference that he regards Terry as integral to Chelski, and as the captain for a long time to come. He also said he was "priceless", but then he also refused to comment on Pato or Pirlo -saying he would not comment on players at other clubs, and refused to comment on Carvalho and Deco -saying they were Chelsea players at the moment.
