OK - so if it's a moby then it wouldn't work without a nearby mast which won't exist. If it's some super future comms device why would it work like a moby that requires holding to the ear. A time traveller would have the tech to have a less conspicuous implanted device. Making it look like an early 21st century phone would be super dumb.

Maybe it's just a woman covering her face from the camera with her glasses case and muttering about the intrusion on her privacy by those soul-stealing camera men ?

ANY explanation is a billion times more likely than the one given. People are just dumb about probability.

The explanation that it's a mobile phone, and people taking it as "modern mobile phone", IS silly.

But a comms device isn't that much.

It's a very efficient way for a comms device to work still and there's a number of reasons why it's not an implant. For example;

- Tech not at implant level yet(the time comms device being at same level as modern mobile).
- The implant tech needing bigger network then a mobile, while this mobile connecting to the timemachine and from there to other timeline.
- It not being a mobile, but a walkietalkie.

Anything else, except "It canna be a mobile since there's no reception!".

People need more imagination

Anyway, back in the 80-90s we already had loonies who talked on an imaginary phone.

Its just someone with a hand up to the side of their head. Could be adjusting a wig, earpiece as said, or whatever.

It also just looks like he's turned to talk to someone off camera. Nothing mysterious about this, just someone making nothing sensible out of nothing. Still he's getting to plug his film company a bit, so maybe worthwhile from his point of view.
