I had a fantastic shit on Sunday morning, I had Stuffed mushrooms starter, Beef Wellington with loads of veg (more stuff to drown in sauce) and Rhubarb crumble pudding for tea the night before.

But then she stepped in it because she claimed it wasn't about race, which i guess many Jewish people would disagree with since a whole big part of their skyfairy thing is that they are the chosen race and while you can convert to Judaism you cant "become" Jewish because its genetic (which might one day be true if they dont get fresh blood into their communities ;) )

All in all it outrages both sides of the outrage brigade so good article to draw eyeballs but a bit meh overall

Ah, so because Adolf Hitler said it was about race, it was about race? Gotcha. Everything the man thought, said and did about race was wrong. In reality everything most people think about race is wrong to this very day, given the genetic differences between all of us are so vanishingly small. Race is a social construct and so is racism; in truth its about hating other cultures and skin colour is just a handy marker to make it easier. Goldberg is right that it was just two groups of white people, although by identifying them as two groups of "white people" she invalidated her own point.

I think her whole point is 100% solid tbh.

There are a lot of bullshit reasons why the skyfairy thing is bullshit. But she's right - it's an argument between two white peoples snd not about race. And if some jewish people are outraged and pointing at Hitler's crazy "justification" for burning jews as a support for/defence of the bullshit argument then they really should take a long hard look at themselves.

You make a really important point about new blood and the insular edicts of judaeism creating a level of inbreeding that over time is bringing up detectable genetic markers - but as much as it's politically advantageous for Israel for the world to think of them as a sort of special race they're, scientifically speaking, just white people who believe a certain brand of bullshit.

Being brave enough, as a black woman who knows what actual racism is, to call out that bullshit argument at what will be great personal cost.

Israel really doesn't like that argument and is strongly invested in the bullshit race argument - because it lends a level of political "justification" or legitimacy to their bullshit arguments around their recently created nation state.

Whether Jews are a race or not isn't really relevant here if the man who carried out the Holocaust did so because he believed the Jews were gegenrasse is it? To Hitler, it was 100% about race. I'm not sure why any other opinions matter. Just for the record, I don't think Jews are a race, but to say it wasn't about race, because we see things differently now, seems like historical revisionism.

Nah, the historical revisionism is allowing Hitler to have a voice in history where Jews are considered their own race and therefore were not integrated into European society, when they clearly were, more so than ethnic minorities of today...

It obviously suits Israel to avoid the narrative of Europeans coming to colonise Israel, which is what actually happened, but imo, by doing that you're shitting on the memory of all the Jews that had decent lives in Europe up to the holocaust, who very much felt like they belonged in the country they grew up in, as did their ancestors.

I'm not so convinced. Hitler and the Nazis were convinced it was about race and they started it. The fact they might have been mistaken about race doesn't make it not the reason. Lots of things are done for reasons that aren't based in fact.

It would be like saying that the Reformation and Counter-Reformation weren't about Catholicism because God isn't real. That's not what we mean by causation in this case. Mistaken ideas can cause things.

You can still state that 'The Nazis believed that they were the master race, and Jews were an inferior race, however it's pretty obvious that the Jews were not a race.'

I feel like we're continuing a narrative which may encourage further anti-semitism, but let's not forget that Israel does indeed want itself to be seen as the victim, so that's not so much of a bad thing for them.

OFC Hitler was all about race, but he didn't go after the Jews just because they weren't white, or any particular colour/race. He went after them because he was balls deep in the rampant anti-Jewish sentiment around at the time. He blamed the elite (as he saw it, Jews) for everything wrong with post WW1 Germany and that was the line that, largely, got him elected in the first place.

There are a fuck ton of other reasons and causes etc but to say Hitler and the Nazis and the holocaust weren't about race is nonsense. Romanies went the same way too, who are a distinct ethnic group.

But you said it yourself.

Hitler went after the Jews because they were the enemies of the state, due to his personal reasons and the idea that they are responsible for all the shit to happen to Germany.

So that doesn't really have anything to do with race, I think it just fits nicely into the narrative of 'Aryans are the master race, so therefore we must have lesser races' but it was merely a tactic to play divide and conquer with the populace and get the Germans behind Hitler.

Whatever bullshit reasons Hitler came up with to do it is irrelevant now.

Whoopie is right - it's not about race - it's white humans coming up with "bullshit," reasons.

But even if I concede that it was at the time, NOW we know better. Now we know Whoopie is technically correct - and our discussions on the subject should now reflect actual reality.

But Israel doesn't want actual reality to be part of the conversation because it undermines their political aims.
