The worst place to grow up in the developed world and a national disgrace...good old brummyland

The OFSTED guy answers his own question in the article; "why does the biggest unitary council in the country keep failing?" Because its the biggest unitary council. They should break Birmingham's local authorities up into more manageable units. There's nothing else intrinsically different about Birmingham, apart from the stupid accent, than any of the other shitholes cities in the UK.

I've got an interview tomorrow for a really good job that's probably well out of my reach. The recruitment guy told me it's going to consist of "brainteasers, puzzles, case studies and questions about your university modules". Of the people doing the interview, one has a phd from oxford, the other a masters. They're Asian too. Shiiit. I'm really fucking nervous.
What's the job?

Yes there is. Or well, it's fine in onion rings/bacon rashers/salt and vinegar sticks etc but that's about it.

Excel monkey for a real estate investment trust.

It actually went quite well. The most tricky thing they asked was "how many planes are there flying over London right now?" which threw me off but I got an answer out in the end.

PHDs going for excel jobs? I take it it's VB coding and whatnot too? I'm basically an Excel drone these days using a program called Atlas to get data out of Microsoft Dynamics AX.

I wonder if I can pimp myself out?!

"big data analysis" are hot shit. if you can use dynamics and or their warehousing shit you're pretty saleable.

I use both. I am actually in charge of all the stock and purchasing for my company at the moment but attached to accounts and also prepare most of the financial reports, profit and loss accounts, sales/cost analysis etc. Terribly boring stuff but pays the bills.

Thinking of moving on early next year so might have to look around.

Get yourself onto some contracting agents. They'll be pimping you out at £500+ in no time .

I concluded at most 48 but said in reality it was probably a bit less. They did say it wasn't about your final answer but more about how you attacked the problem. They didn't tell me any info on number of runways, how many planes land/take off per minute, what they defined as London, flight paths to and from the airports etc.

Its about 100 takeoffs and landings per hour across all four airports and I guess it makes sense to say half are heading away from London. Its actually probably a bit less than 50, but there are police helicopters and stuff.

Seems reasonable. They should nail drink drivers up outside pubs.
