So, a Muslim Selfridges shop assistant refused to serve a man who was shopping with the leader of the EnglishDef ense League. Selfridges are not taking the matter any further and the shop assistant will return to the shop floor.

I can see the shop assistant's point of view but refusing to serve a customer based on their religious or political views is unprofessional and against company rules.

If I acted the same way at work I'd expect to be disciplined maybe even sacked. Same for anyone who serves members of the public yet this person gets off scott free.

You don't have to like your customers but imo you are expected to be professional and do your job.
Eg, I wouldn't shake the hand of Martin McGuinness but II'd serve him none the less

Selfridges have just set themselves a really dangerous HR precedent if that's true.
