This is a shitty story - now the NHS is falling apart the Government (of which the BBC is mouthpiece) is increasingly blaming the customers of that service.

Drunks have always turned up at A&E and pushing this idea that you need to have been in a car crash to go to A&E is going to cost lives. In the absence of weekend GP cover since New Labour produced idiotically one sided contracts for GPs some years ago the writing has been on the wall for this but Politicians are just blaming the sick

Get hit by drunk on a night out? The NHS will class you as a drunk. Go into A&E on a Saturday night at all? You'll be listed as a drunk until proven otherwise. This is not new, and A&E on Saturday nights in particular have been the national drunk tank for decades.

They do it in other categories as well. Basically anyone who goes to hospital with a motoring-related injury will be billed for an ambulance, even if they didn't use one. That little scam has been going on for 30 years.

My friend laid his bike down and ended up in a hedge, he wrote it off and broke an arm and a leg. He called the insurance to cancel it rather than claiming for the bike and losing his no claims. But he got told there were medical claims so he had already lost his no claims. I always assumed that was for the ambulance and maybe also the clean up as there was bike and oil all over the road.
