It takes 17 hours to receive a radio signal from it. Its that far away
Yeah I saw. But... but... how the hell can it transmit something so far and how the hell can we then pick it up down here and how the hell is it intelligible once it gets back to us? It's mindblowing that something with 36-year-old tech on it can still phone home. Even more so because of how far away it is.

I would think the fact the tech is so old helps it work. You just know if it was using some modern newfangled tech it would have broken by the time it hit Mars :)

You need to read Carl Sagans accounts of how they have kept various probes alive over the years using the most unbelievable remote diagnosis and imaginitive fixes, those guys are the ultimate problem solvers.

The Galileo probe had its main antenna fail so they had to use the back up smaller one at a lower bit rate, but on its way to Jupiter jpg and mpg was invented, so they uploaded new compression software and the probe started sending back info quicker than the original dish could have anyway.

Got a bit of a man flu going on. Decided I'd try to kick it in the nuts with a noodle soup. Lots of ginger, chili, half a lemon's juice and a clove of garlic. Added a stock cube to the water aswell. Now I am eating the soup and nuts are getting kicked I am telling you. I haven't been able to taste a thing for the past few days, but this soup is delightful!
