Yeah. I get that 100%.This isn't being driven by the UK; the 2G network globally will be a patchwork quilt globally by the end of this year. Europe is sunsetting it more slowly (3G seems to be going faster) but it's still happening.
It's still rubbish that Nissan are killing it in the UK, but it's also not remotely surprising, and long term support for apps is a minefield, not just in automotive; I've just been through something similar at work where an app has been outsourced by our core software provider and then became completely unsupportable. Apps, especially Android Apps, are a fucking pain in the arse. Always have been.

However, what Nissan should be doing with the cars that are 4 years newer than my perfectly good Volvo, is replacing the 2G component with some 4G/5G compatible thing to extend the life of the car.
If the design makes that impossible, then governments need to step in to make that modular functionality a legal requirement.
