Making your usual extreme interpretations again, I just don't find it necessary to do something that will clearly insult others in such a class by someone who should of really known better.

So you're talking about Charlie Hebdo and religious taboos in a comparative religion class but you can't show what all the fuss was about? And living in a world where not offending all religious sensibilities is a thing is the road to ruin. Its absolutely fucking stupid and nothing will change my mind about that. Religion is just opinion, it should not be a protected class. Protect things you are (race, age, sex), not things you do (politics, religion, choice of football team).

I'm not talking about Charlie Hebdo at all.

Fuck religions, they should be treated as a hobby and have no bearing on any political or educational institutions in any way shape or form. It's time they were all binned off anyway.

Everyone else is.

Including the muslim parents who have gotten offended by what little Mohammed was getting shown in class - before getting a teacher suspended and wringing an apology out of a spineless school.

Maybe the school is more worried about muslamic raygun rampage than teaching children? In that case we've a very serious problem and we should be doubling down on educational standards messaging rather than capitulating to threats of religious violence.

I'm not.

Again I just find it a stupid thing to do in what was an RE class that had Muslim children in it, personally I find RE classes pointless and was a little surprised they are still about.

Its religious education not religious proselytizing

That said i dont know how it was presented, if teacher was being a dick about it or if he was genuinely trying to get a discussion going. Probably not worth getting fired over

Just finished a tough 16 weeks with short time working followed by a year end close and annual reports for eight legal entities followed by and internal audit all of which went well - I am very very proud of my departments for their performance. This weekend is the first opportuity some of them (including me) have been able to relax so I thought I would start it with a twist on a French 75 - Gin, Tattinger Rose, lemon juice, maple syrup and some chamboud... it is not to sweet and really very yummy and well deserved... i gave key employees the rest of the day off after the closing meeting and naturally they can start to take back all the hours over contract that they hve worked (for me this means a week off mid April to get rid of a third of the hours over I have accumulated this year... ).

So you think education would work if teachers were allowed to tell students what they think?
This man wasn't in a school. He posted anonymously on a blog called "Provoked Pedagogue".

Do you think people should get sacked because they don't tow the corporate line at home in their private lives as well as in the workplace? The total prohibition of personal expression outside of what is allowed in a professional setting?

You know that he wasn't in school when he wrote it. (You also know it's likely accurate). So in school? He tows the party line. Outside of school? His freedom to express his thoughts should be protected.

Technically, he didn't tell the students what he thought.

...and from reading some of his comments, he may well be right. Lots of dickheads these days spending money they don't have on trying to look like someone they aren't, mostly for their Instagram bullshit. Unfortunately kids do too.

Edit, that being said, perhaps he should have not bothered :)

And remove tax and all other preferential benefits.

I'm not sure "Kardashian Clones" was the problematic bit about what he said haha

Oh, don't be a prude. Understanding that particular reference just means we watch porn, not that we're incest proned.

Step-sister is not incest!

Not according to the educational material on certain websites anyway.

“But we’re sisters!”

“STEP-sisters.”

*kiss*

I actually write the scripts. It’s a second income.

Highlander 2 being proposed again:

Unpopular opinion time: would crowdfund anyone crazy enough to try to publicly murder Marcia McNutt.

She's likely a lovely person but deliberate geoengineering should be off the table and for the sake of mankind I'd not blink at that ethical 'conundrum' because the reasons why we should not geoengineer in this way are so starkly obvious that sort of action is easily justified.

Now, if she was advicating direct removal of CO2 from the atmosphere because she'd found a way to make it not incredibly energy intensive (or could tap geothermal in a hitherto unforseen way) then I'd get behind her.

But the succession of scientists, engineers and politicians who want to change the nature of the atmosphere for the whole world - would happily see that venture made so risky that they'd choose another path.

Don't these fuckers watch cheap disaster movies or something?!
