Anyone watching The Expanse?

Just finished Ep1. Was good. Mate of mine recommended it to me - he's been reading the book(s?). Says it looks like it could be the new BSG (at least quality wise) - and he's got taste :)

Yep up ep 7 with 8 to watch, loving it so far. Evil Earthers with their grav torture!

I quite like how its human problems in space as opposed to OH NO ALIENS ARE CAUSING THE BOTHER.

But I can see this happening anyway.

Yes, I am quite far into the series (EP 8) and am quite enjoying it. Well worth it and the copper just gets better and better :)

That's kind of my point, it's a shame really, I wanted it all to be about how humans don't learn, even when they're about to conquer the final frontier, bringing robots/aliens into it kind of deteriorates the 'gritty' feeling it has.

Disagree. The only problem I had with the first 7 episodes was that it seemed like a very old fashioned view of the future. A show about the 23rd century without strong AI seems faintly ridiculous

I don't know, I completely disagree.

At the minute space travel is like a futuristic/expensive venture, in order to successfully exploit resources in space, there will be cheaper forms of doing it, and more expensive ways to do it - Earth clearly wants to exploit, whilst Mars is a bit more futuristic about it.

I'll have to get this Expanse, but I have so many series to watch I'm almost out of space on my backup HD...

...but both would use AI. Of course they would. We would now. Why would it not be a thing two hundred years from now?

It's not that, it's always -easy- in my PoV to say oh damn, we made an AI which got out of control! whereas its not as easy to elaborate space politics and stuff. I think the Mormons have a bigger hand to play in this tbh.

I just walked through our warehouse and heard some advert on the radio for loans from one of those bottom feeder loan companies, 25000% APR or whatever the fuck they fleece people with. One of their selling points was "improve your credit score" What?! Are they actually trying to sell loans to people who don't need and cannot afford a loan on that basis?

Doubt it. Mate did some work for them and Notts police a few years back and said they're all a bunch of backwards fucks. He's surprised it's not already happened tbh.

He put in a whole new SCCM infra for the pigs (and another friend's just done it for North Yorks) and the staff are assiduously ignoring it in favour of pre-installing all apps onto a desktop and then ghosting desktops from there :\

He also got given domain admins on day one of his contract - which gave him access to the paedo database, car journeys database etc. etc. etc.

And the pigs are thinking of merging forces IT! :D

That's because we feel indebted to England and have to be ultra nice. I can't personally handle the thought of them cutting off our electricity and money supply.

Its OK, you have plenty of oil and natural gas to keep you going in the event of independence!
