There are plenty of excellent shows being put out on the BBC. I rarely watch any of them live, but hey, their player service is second to none and advert free, and when watching online you get a 2hour buffer to pause or rewind etc (I don't currently have a TiVo or equivalent).

Those denying it's got good shows tell me there isn't anything you would like to watch out of this:

BBC iPlayer - Documentary Picks

... and that was just a 2 click random shuffle...

I don't like this "I'm getting ripped off even more than you, therefore you don't have a right to complain" stance. I'm with Raven, I think the beeb is shite and I'm happy for those that think otherwise, but that's your opinion.

Sky might be more expensive and have adverts, but it's fuckloads better than the BBC. In fact, I'd go so far to say that £12 a month isn't enough, perhaps if we paid more it wouldn't be so turd.

To be fair, I'm a massive pirate (tho I pay the licence fee) - but if I was made to subscribe to watch telly / films then I'd simply find something better to do.

Got a keyboard and a guitar downstairs and a PC upstairs. Job jobbed.

Christ it is just 12gbp pcm.... Here I pay 2000kr for proper shite with adverts.... Please stop whining if I pay a separate subscription just so I can have the BBC :/
To be fair, 2k licence fee is per year. £12 a month is nearly 1800 SEK per year. On top of that there's only one public access channel with ads, TV4?

That being said, just slap the fee on as a tax - everyone pays, and the nutters can complain that the public service isn't getting the funding it should.

I have actually decided I am more concerned that nearly a 6th of the population have nothing better to do with their time than watch Call the Midwife.
Because men of my age remember Jenny Agutter as the topless schoolgirl in Walkabout.

What a naughty film.

Ah, Walkabout. A treasured memory in an entire generation of men's childhoods, and probably responsible for a significant upward curve in Kleenex's shares.

Have seen that Help for Heroes Easter Egg that they are selling at Tesco. It says 100% of Tesco Proffit is given to Help for Heroes Trading Limited who Gift Aid all Taxable Proffits to Help for Heores. Is that not a bit dodgy "All Taxable Proffits"? I don't trust Help for Heroes at the best of times but that seems like a business is selling that and donating some to the Charity? I'm not the best with all the finance stuff so it might be perfectly normal.

Skys news service is rubbish just look at kate burliegh(sp). I never watch sky 1 or 2. Infact the only soy i watch is sports. For the football and american football coverage.

The bbc do some top drawer documenteries. They are never goin to have the funds to push put dexter or similar series but they do their bit with things like sherlock. And no i havent watched either dexter or sherlock.

Mtod is much better than any thing that the other channels put on and it was shown how good it was when itv attempted to do it.

But as said bbc is a lot more than bbc1 and 2. Iplayer is awesome and a lot of the commercial channels wouldnt offer similar if the bbc hadnt done it first. Radio 2 during the daytime is great and five live is excellent too for sports when driving.

I bet most of the channels you get for your fifty quid sky sub you never watch either. I know i dont. And as deebs says i always record and watch back now. Cant stand ads.

The BBC fee goes into all the infrastructure as well doesn't it? So all Freeview TV comes over the infrastructure delivered by your TV Licence?

IIRC Arqiva own all the terrestrial infrastructure.

Complaining about the BBC is a bit like complaining about the NHS really. You can have all the BUPA you want, but you still have to pay the government to run the NHS. I have to say though, the BBC is a good organisation but when it comes to quality control, in many respects they lag very, very far behind the competition. You'd be amazed at how much BBC material is shot by non-cameramen and it shows (to a trained eye). The other channels tend not to do that.

Really?

Can you find two examples on BBC iPlayer and not say which is which?

Very easily, but I'm not going to, for the same reason you wouldn't publicly slag your immediate supervisor off. It isn't as though there's anything wrong with the people doing it, it's more that they're being asked to do something they don't really want to do.

I know someone who has been on that Homes Under the Hammer as a "local expert". He said over the years the crews have gone from Producer, Camera person, Sound person and an assistant all the way down to his latest one which was just a Producer with what sounds like a GoPro. So it could be one of them.

Can someone with a mortgage tell me do you pay in advance or arrears? So if I moved in on the 10th and my payment is due on the 3rd will I pay 3 or 7 weeks? I have asked the bank but they seem to having a hard time telling me before the 3rd when I will already know :)

From what i remember my first installment was a bit more as it was the remainder of the month i moved in and the month i was going into. So you pay in advance for the month coming.

Anyone watching The Expanse?

Just finished Ep1. Was good. Mate of mine recommended it to me - he's been reading the book(s?). Says it looks like it could be the new BSG (at least quality wise) - and he's got taste :)

Only got around to watching it the other day and devoured the first seven episodes in an afternoon, just watched ep 8 a few minutes ago. Really enjoying it. I've not read the original novels, and Larry Niven will always be the first and last word on Belters, but its the best TV space opera I've seen for a long while.

I had a suspicion confirmed in episode 8

10 million people watch it.

Think about the audience, middle aged to older people.

People less likely to use PC's and torrent and stuffs.

More likely to sit behind their TV and happily give the Beeb £12 a month.

£120,000,000 a month happily.

I don't expect the BBC to cater for my needs, because I don't pay the TV licence, and if I do watch the BBC it's on the iPlayer, Although they're changing that soon apparently.

roughly translated to:

"I enjoy the midwife, I often have my trousers around my ankles while it's on FAPFAPFAPFAPFA BUTTER LARD FAPFAPFAP."
