Watched the Hills have eyes last night, because the daughter loves it, always wrote it off as B movie crap...it was really good.

I can't stand those accents. I think I'd have to strangle them all if I were there.

Posho New York (Long Island) accents.

To be honest there should have been a guide boat there, coxless fours are a bit tricky visibility-wise.

I've been to a Cyclo Cross (CX) race today, part of the UCI CX world cup. I've formed the opinion that CX racers are highly masochistic nutters who take their pain and discomfort in double helpings. I saw national champs from several countries, and the world champ race. One of the things the racers had to do was carry their bikes and run up a flight of stairs that were covered in wet sandy muck. There were 46 steps the commentators said iirc. To me it looked steep as fuck and well dodgy to walk up, let alone run while carrying a bike. The men had to do it...iirc... 10 times. The winner's time was 1 hour 7 minutes and 31 seconds.

Just back from Tenerife, been mountain biking here. Sat in a cafe at the start of the day and watched a roadie on what must have been his fourth hour of continual climb at about 5500ft above sea level. He was red faced and blowing hard. Must have been absolute torture.

We laughed our asses off* :)

*Edit: Not as much as when my mate did a 450 degree forward flip over the handlebars to faceplant into a pile of rocks tho!

My first bike was a cyclo cross back in the seventies, still got it.
Though I did replace the racing bars for straights...because obviously using road race bars offroad is just silly...and thats why cxcross is so awesome.

BBC may ask over-75s to give up free TV licence - BBC News

The beeb need to sell off licences to the likes of Amazon and Netflix...

Imagine how giddy they'd get if the Beeb offered out Doctor Who...
Netflix UK has Doctor Who already and a lot of other BBC content (Luther, Sherlock ect). I think the deals they have with BBC worldwide selling the rights already abroad might stop them going on Netflix globally? But the only reason Top Gear is coming back is probably so they do not have to buy out contracts for countries that have already bought it. I bet they would have re-branded it to give it a better chance of success if they could.

BBC could (and does) do deals with Netflix on new content, but older content has pre-existing syndication deals.

Whether Netflix would get "giddy" about Doctor Who; probably not; so long as it was still getting FTA broadcast in the UK, its less valuable to Netflix globally (they're as exposed to torrents as anybody else); which is why Netflix is commissioning its own first run content (and apparently paying massively over-the-odds for the privilege)
