Whats that got todo with refrubs. And it seems like its a cou try wide only so many are allowed to study medicine. Donno why cant see the point myself maybe its an expensive course or they dont see the need for that many doctors or something.

But i dont see a connection with refurbs.

Raise in fees = no more government funding = no more government input = uni does what they want with money = uni makes new buildings to attract foreign students because we dont give them enough money

You can"t help but think anyone rich enough to afford a 180K degree, doesn't need the job anyway.
Are they just education badges for the elite...sent the kids to Oxford, most expensive degree...now he van talk down to the captain of my yacht.

As I said, you'll be surprised.

There's a booming middle class in China at the minute, degrees are like gold dust out there, they -seriously- appreciate education, especially so when they only have a single child to focus upon.

no one died and they could get an $18 billion fine - where as GM's faulty iginition switches killed 124 people, and they get away with $900 million
I agree with your post apart from this. The NOx emissions actually do kill people (heart attacks in the UK are highest on main-road fronts at rush hour due precicely to this) - but aside from that the faulty ignition is a genuine fault - the VW thing is criminal activity.

Medical course banned at one Uni for UK students , because of Government limits.

Overseas sutdents pay

The five-year course at the Preston-based university, training students to be doctors, is only available to overseas students, who will pay total tuition fees of £182,500.

What the living fuck, 180K to train to be a doctor, that is just an obscenity, fuck these Uni's, they ate living on borrowed time.

£180k is like 1 years salary for a senior doctor. Seems like a reasonable investment if you have the cash upfront...

Most of my education has been taught in English

My little brother and I had an argument about this actually.

I was saying its so foreign people can work in English speaking countries and trade/communicate with other English speakers, not for English speakers to get a ez time in foreign countries.

yes and no :) My small part of the university takes in roughly 200 exchange students every semester, from all over the World. Currently in my English class we have about 10 Singaporeans(?). It is obviously a massive advantage that most of the education is in English, as well as our textbooks, but nothing prevents you, or any other EU citizen to apply to a Danish university. You will be treated like any other student, the education will be paid by our government and we will pay you to study here. No shit.

Another massive part of it is that we don't have the required workforce we need, because of our relative small size as a nation. So we need to bring it in from abroad. Our universities are a massive part of this. In about ten years we'll be lacking some insane number of engineers, so we need to lure people in somehow, and our high standard of living, paid free education and nice weather(lol) contributes to minimizing this gap

Costs over £600K to train a doctor in the UK. £180K for the first three years is about right. If a classroom full of Chinese kids subsidises 10 courses for local students, what's the problem? My Uni was doing this 20 odd years ago; first year was full of foreigners paying thousands to be on my course, that I got free. Of course a lot of them crapped out in the first year, but these days the foreigners are probably better students than our lot.

Are the lectures in English?

What Coke said. Many lectures are indeed English, depending on which University/course you take. But yes, if you register here in Sweden, get ID, bank-account etc, you will even get paid for it. Same in Norway/Finland isn't it?

That's how modern universities should operate. You study and then you work.

The UK seems to play hear no evil see no evil speak no evil since our government apparently limits the amount of medical courses we have. They then happily allow influxes of foreign students who don't remain in the UK because UK universities are businesses and aren't used as centres of education which feed our workforce, then cut NHS Jr doctors wages by 40% (see @Tilda ) and then be like uhm. We might have a shortage of doctors. Makes absolutely 0 sense to me.

They'll replace doctors with AI within 20 years anyway.
Helped along by insane education costs and high (deserved) wages.

In most nordics they have a clause that you have to be a permanent resident to get the support, that means tou just have to move there before you apply to study ;)

When i moved to finland i worked for a year and got all my social security nubbins sorted out first and thus got paid to study (in english) but most of the EU peeps get no cash, just subsidised housing and transport :)

Thats true, but also slightly misunderstood.
The UK gov limits places to allow it to workforce plan - this is for "normal" public uni's. The Uni that made the news because it ownly let foreign students in is a private uni and private medical course. They're prevented because if anybody could do medicine (ie without limited numbers) we'd spend a fortune training people but without jobs for them.

The NHS "Junior" contract they want to impose is a separate issue where the gov thinks its acceptable to essentially cut overtime payments (Saturday evening working = same as tuesday morning working) while only increasing base salary by a tiny amount to 'compensate' - the result is around a 30% pay cut for everybody between junior doctors and near-consultants.
