And what makes you think that an article in the guardian/the telegraph/any of the newspapers that are so horribly compromised (see the thread above) - are any more authoritative?

In science - if all the data is published, correctly and fully, then there's nowhere to hide.

I'd rather put my trust in an organisation that publishes and allows you to go and check and meaningfully challenge the actual data (the IPCC) - than a fuckload of conspiracy pieces by vested interests in a clearly-compromised press...
How ever reviewed and studied a paper is alway going to be crap on climate change because we have so little data. Only 100+ years in soo many millions the earth has been here.

Its all conjecture. Maybe we are in a natural cycle. No one knows. And on news paper is as good as another. Who else do we trust other than journos to bring out fiddles and conspiracies ? I dont have the time you seem to have to read every paper thats been published everywhere on virtually any subject you care to mention.

I think the IPCC's main problem is the conclusions and educated guesses it supports have been monumentally off the mark, time and time again, far worse than guessing...not even in the ballpark and they then , with no shame whatsoever go back and adjust the findings to fit in with actual measurement...take a few hours to go back over their predictions and then look at what actually happened, the hurricane activity prediction was so wrong it's funny, and you know what we heard from the scientist running the models...a fuckin big list of unexpected events, all explained very technically, that had caused the lack of hurricanes...factors one would have thought would be in the model to start with...games over for models because no one knows what to put in till after the event.

I did some model development during my degree. You clearly have no idea how it works.

Oh I see, getting it wrong is the correct way to do it then.

Anything you say @Job or @Raven you wont have nearly the expertese in the subject that @Scouse has and there for never be considered worthy enpugh to discuss the subject.

However i dont know anyone who has seen any proof of scouses expertise in any of the subjects so far.

That s the laziest most pretentious bull i ever saw. He knows exactly what the guy is asking but wants to make him feel small. Instead of saying it has forces that attract and repell each other and letting the guy walk away happy he desides to be a cunt much like you are for posting it.

You bang on about golf being elitist and seperatist and then go and do the same thing with science. Instead of trying to educate you belittleand try to make your self seem superior.

Infact to me its that you dont have the ability to engage on the subject in the manner asked so you deflect. Showing your lack of understanding.

How far would we get if everytime someone asked a question they got slapped and told just keep being stupid.

That doesn't exclude the problem with phrasing like "you have no idea" being meaningless if you don't then show atleast some degree of knowledge on the matter, or the willingnes to explain.

The video shows a man who is willing and does explain, so it kind of works against you ;)

FYI; i disagreed on that notion, not the video.

I think it's a wonderful example of one of the brightest human minds that ever existed being asked a "fantastic" question that he cannot explain to a lay person.

If the journalist wanted to understand the question in terms that Feynman could explain then he'd have to become a student of physics - and learn mathematics and study the forces and their interactions. Otherwise he did answer the question by saying there are forces that repel and attract.

The interviewer wasn't dumb - he just lacked the level of education to understand those forces in a more meaningful way - and Feynman explained that clearly.

YOU - on the other hand, are being dumb. Because you can't see that obvious thing. :p

Fair enough. I take that point. But I've learned my lesson well on Freddyshouse - every time I try to discuss something with a long-winded answer I get accused of filibustering - and then people like moriath jump in and agree.

The post doesn't get read - it goes nowhere. So I answered with the Feynman vid - because I'm sure as hell not going to waste my time trying to explain it to people who can't be arsed to do the work themselves, only to be ignored or ridiculed again.

So fuck 'em. :)

Yup a moron ofcourse. Love you too. So friendly. I havent called you names just questioned your knowledge and all you can do is put down again.

I have an iq high enough to get into mensa and educated to degree level but ok a moron and stupid.

I'm quite sure that a few worried individuals will complain about the end being nigh when i say; understandable viewpoint on getting tired of it.

When we are the only ones having a civilized back-forth and can agree on several issues, or agree to disagree, and leave it at that, it does become worrying :p

Actually, I'd amended my post before you commented because I figured that was uncalled for - and I apologise that I didn't do it quickly enough.

However, whilst you have them you're not using your thinking muscles any more. You may have used to do that - but now you're not self-questioning - or you'd have easily spotted what Feynman was saying or not got pissed off about a number of other things that I can't be arsed discussing right now...

Thats called the scientific method, you make a hypothesis based on currently available data, you then test the theory and see if it fits, and when new data is available you adjust the model - hopefully reaching a point where the model can be used to predict outcomes with higher degrees of accuracy.

as an example of a model used for a long time that was eventually amended (but still held in high regard) is Newtons concept of gravity as a force, Einstein argued it wasnt actually a force and now that we have lasers and satellites we have been able to test the theory better and it looks like he is right but that there is clearly more we dont know

Erm, vacancy, resumé, awareness (it's tricky with understanding 3 words later because you're basically using the same word twice - either way I would change an understanding to the understanding), fell (and then add we before were), magnitude (or speed? depends what you're trying to say, really).

The sentences was not written my me, so being somehow flawed coming from the teacher initially that makes it kind of hard. I'd also say awareness, but yeah, it's sort of the same word @caLLous . Perhaps she won't notice? :)
