a little voice in my head just said "you could have saved yourself a shitload of work if you'd only have made it twice as fast and half as expensive, Teeds you klutz!"

You make it as much faster and effective as you can, then do what Scouse says and sell it yourself, but you sell it in "amazing new increasing values" packets where the first "innovative and absolutely fantastic" product is only 10 times faster.

You know, ish*t it :p

ah well, I suppose this is the difference between dreaming about owning a nice Porsche and actually owning one (or several (or several dozen (or having a house built especially to house my collection of vintage but pristine Porsche's  ))).

Get a house made out of porches.

Meh, I've not got a commercial mind. I like to make things that work well. Making things that profit well makes my skin twitch.

Well if you ever start making commercial stuff i can do the bullsh*t and get you as much booze and bacon papers you need.

I'll just need a suitable compensation to cover my own personal produce procurements.

Making shit up requires imagination, a trait lacking in non-visionary types of people who have no problem believing shit.

I have no problem believing that you would excel if your job title was "making shit up".

Well it is kind of my job as a designer :p

Also at my last job i found out i'm quite good at making bullsh*t stupid EA level moneygrabbing features, not that i'd want to, but i could.

heh I've not read that one yet. WL does tend to, um, be just as dodgy as any other media stream be a bit odd from time to time

I nearly had to drive to Denmark today.

We need to get something there NAOW! After watching the warehouse man run around in a panic, I jokingly said that i they hire me a pickup truck and pay for a boat and hotel I would drive it there. They actually took me seriously.

My mate works in logistics, his stories of similar incidents that do actually materialise are astounding.

During the ash cloud over Europe, where all planes were grounded, I heard of a guy who had a meeting in Portugal and he took a cab from Copenhagen to Lisbon

Bah. Had a trip to Warsaw planned this weekend, but, the exams was re-scheduled to Monday. Would arrive back in Stockholm on Tuesday. Someone will get more space for their ass on that flight i guess.

Buying a new ticket to get home earlier would cost me 1500 kronor; cant be arsed.

I'm on the fence about this sort of thing.

Sure, he's earned his daily wad and contributed a not-very good story in a sort of Ben Goldacre lite mould - but in the end he's managed to put another "science" story in the press that millions will read. And he knows it:
Attia’s nonprofit is trying to raise $190 million to answer these fundamental questions. But it’s hard to focus attention on the science of obesity, he says. “There’s just so much noise.”

You can thank people like me for that. We journalists have to feed the daily news beast, and diet science is our horn of plenty. Readers just can’t get enough stories about the benefits of red wine or the dangers of fructose. Not only is it universally relevant—it pertains to decisions we all make at least three times a day—but it’s science! We don’t even have to leave home to do any reporting. We just dip our cups into the daily stream of scientific press releases flowing through our inboxes. Tack on a snappy stock photo and you’re done.

So, he now needs to follow up with a story in all of these papers - and perhaps lobby the paper's owners - if he's actually concerned and wants to do any real good (or repair the real damage the chocolate-bullshit story will have done to the idiots who believed it).

This is interesting and amusing tho :)

Maybe he is just looking for systematic change? His conclusion points to this.

Anyway, this sort of bullshit science isn't something unique to nutrition. It's the climate change lot's bread and butter. He makes an excellent point about noise, there is just so much bullshit that it drowns out the real science.

Have you actually done the studies on it being the "climate change's lot's" bread and butter @Raven - or are the things you've read simply the noise? The IPCC has a studious submissions and review process for just this sort of thing. One of it's main reasons for existence is to try to cut through the noise...

Anyway - yep - being kind maybe this guy would very much like systemic change - but I'm questioning his method of bringing it about. I think it's similar in some ways to the rabbit stunt. He could definitely do more constructive work by doing the sort of campaigning you see in the link I posted above IMO. :)

IPCC, ha, the guys who base hard science on fiddled data (Google it! Can't be arsed to find it while at work) There was an extensive Guardian story on it a few years back.

And what makes you think that an article in the guardian/the telegraph/any of the newspapers that are so horribly compromised (see the thread above) - are any more authoritative?

In science - if all the data is published, correctly and fully, then there's nowhere to hide.

I'd rather put my trust in an organisation that publishes and allows you to go and check and meaningfully challenge the actual data (the IPCC) - than a fuckload of conspiracy pieces by vested interests in a clearly-compromised press...
