There is a fantastic image from one of the George Bush elections, I think against Gore, which showed the relative proportion of funding for their respective election campaigns and the sources with circles/spider diagram lines - it was frightening.

I can't find that image :( Props to anyone who knows what I'm talking about or finds it.

This is what I mean RE the above - essentially Bush's funding circles were huge and all comprised of Oil and Defence companies. Gore's were far, far smaller and fewer in comparison.

I wish I could find that picture, maybe it was in the Economist or something - it was pretty sobering.

another overlooked vote is that puerto rico voted to pursue statehood, so there could be an actual 51st state before long

It's just not news that maine supports it. It's actually suprising that there's only one state supporting it. It's not even progress.

"When asked about the legal status, a July 2008 poll by Quinnipiac University Polling Institute revealed that 32% of respondents would allow homosexual partners to legally marry, 33% would permit them to form civil unions, and 29% would grant them no legal recognition.[34][36] A December 2008 poll revealed that 32% of respondents support the concept of civil unions, 31% would offer full marriage rights to same-sex couples, and 30% oppose any legal recognition for gay and lesbian partnerships.[37]"

And same sex marriage has been legal in maine since 2009. As i said, it's just cherry picking and making it sound like it's somewhat revolutionary when it's not. Now when you say states like missisippi, texas, or alabama support gay marriage, THEN it becomes impressive. Now it's just same old.

And legalising pot? Please. That has had country wide support since pot was invented :p

I think you're confusing issues of personal satisfaction with an outcome and media cherry picking things to create a drama that isn't there. And in your stats there you show only a third approved gay marriage, with a third disapproving. It's now legally approved via vote, which means majority are approving, which is an increase, is it not?

That's overall, not maine. Maine has had majority support since 2009 i believe.

You have your personal satisfaction, but don't present it as some kind of a huge victory when it's just hype :p

Erm: http://www.thedailybeast.com/articles/2012/11/07/how-gay-liberation-got-marriage-passed-in-maryland-and-maine.html

In the midst of all the noise about the reelection of a centrist Democratic president and a razor-thin control of one house of Congress, don’t miss the real game change in American society: in Maryland, the voters validated their legislators’ decision to authorize marriage between people of the same sex, and in Maine, the voters enacted same-sex marriage all on their own, a 180 from only three years ago, when they struck it down (to say nothing of the direct, popular statewide election of an out gay senator, Tammy Baldwin). It’s a major victory, but not just for the gay revolution

Erm, I never did. I listed a bunch of things that happened. I didn't even pass comment about them.

Not only did Obama win, Maine voters approved gay marriage, Colorado and Washington voters approved legalisation of cannabis, and Todd Akin and Richard Mourdock (who expressed absurd views on rape and don't understand human biology) both lost.

Ok then, where did I pass comment?

Seriously Toht, you've been caught talking out your arse.

Well if we exclude the original post to start with and ofcourse all the talk of progress, which has a clear tone of "Yei success!" then there's this;

personal satisfaction with an outcome

Not that this has anything to do with what i said of this not being a big issue. But hey, you take it as you will, probably thinking i hate gay marriage right about now.

Now do the good british thing and cherrypick a comment you can use againt me from this post and ignore the rest ;)

Unlike Scouse I know when to stop feeding him. Proven wrong, now moving goalposts. No need to defend against such stupidity.

Yeah, cop out like usual ;)

"Nu-uh!" isn't a valid argument.

I've showed you how you passed comment on the issue, i've given points on how it's not a big issue and all you've done is gone "nu-uh!" while trying to say you didn't say something.

Half of this argument is about you saying you didn't even comment on the issue, which EVEN IF was true would make your original post pointless in the first place.

I just like a good argument ;)

You can't have a good argument with Toht though because he rarely makes a point, just waffling on and on, contradicting himself, changing his argument.

Anyway, he didn't comment on it, he just mentioned it.

This is true, but it's all I've got left since the General|OT merge :(

Anyway, he didn't comment on it, he just mentioned it.

This is also true :)

Fucking hell I'll clear this up for you since it appears you're being thick rather than stupid:

I made a list of stuff. I passed no comment.

I then made an unrelated comment about the BBC cherry picking information to create drama that didn't exist.

You then burst in saying I was cherry picking stuff in the same manner.

This is entirely false because I was stating factual information for factual information's sake. Not drama.

Comments were ONLY passed on the subject once you butted in with bullshit nonsense, it was included to try and clear up your misunderstanding of the situation. Obviously the tactic of "explaining things a bit further" (one regularly used in teaching children to aid comprehension) hasn't worked for you and just confused you even more.

I like the way you also glossed over the fact you were completely wrong in your Maine example that opticle disproved as well.

So basically you're still arguing points that aren't true, are confused and have been proven wrong, and you wonder why people can't be arsed with you on these forums when you get like this? Stop being such a spanner. You don't have to continue arguments once they've got going if you're totally and utterly wrong, it just makes you look like a dog that won't give up his throwing stick for the master.

Yes you did, as shown before.

Comments were ONLY passed on the subject once you butted in with bullshit nonsense,

Interesting backpeddle, but also states that you did hold a comment on the matter as implied by original post.

As for the rest of your rant; i wasn't confused about the issue, i said it's not a big issue. This seemed to spark a huge problem with you.

But yeah, think that's enough trolling. Interesting how only a few people notice when i troll an issue, which is at the point when someone brings out the playground arguments like troll and toht is ;)

I thought I'd give him one last chance in case it was a case of brain failing to engage rather than trolling.

Sadly I think too much of people in these situations. :)

Why do you continue to do it when reasonably asked not to Toht?

It's honestly fucking the place up as a port of reasoned discussion. Your trolling brings FH down to the level of an average website sometimes...

Nah the discussion was over from the first reply really, i don't see it as a big issue, that's all. It's a victory ofcourse, even small ones are.

Don't call people trolls from the get-go and you'll get a proper discussion ;)

It's really not, no more then Jobs posts, or you rants, or anyone elses arguments we see around. As said above; try discussing instead of calling out trolls and you don't get trolling ;)

People who envoke it, deserve it. Much like your "religion deserves bashing" arguments.

She sounds fat
Who cares how she sounds, she could sound like an angel and still be an idiot.
Not that I really listened because after a few seconds she sounded like a looney.
But for the US its going to be 4 more years of change that just seem like no change.

Thats because balancing an economy isn't very exciting after an idiot has thrown it to the wind.
