If true that's hardly surprising since the entire book is less than half the length of the shortest novel in the LotR trilogy. Extra padding required!

My expectations are that it's going to be a bit like King Kong - really fucking dull and unnecessary in many places.

The worst bits of LOTR were the Jackson-developed bits where he left Tolkein's story and did his own little things. The Hobbit is going to be rammed with that sort of stuff.

I'm hoping to be pleasantly surprised but I'm not holding my breath.

I just hope there's a minimal amount of "Look at me! I'm LotR kinda! Pretty things! Long looks at eachother! Drama! Ooh I'm pretty!" :D

I just had a waking nightmare that Disney had bought the LOTR franchise and there were singing birds and the dwarves all looked like Snow White's dwarves :(

Some people are saying this is tough to watch due to the 48fps other are claiming it is a gimmick.

Ah a new tagline; The Hobbit, just like Snow White except now 100% homoerotic.

Some people like to play games at 25 fps rather than 50 fps.

These people are called dicks.

Though I'll tell you what I actually think from experience on Saturday ;)

Is there a reliable list of places to see it in 48fps? I want to see it on IMAX at 48fps in 3D, where can I find that out? There's an IMAX in Manchester.

I loved the second and the mouth of sauron (in the extended version).

The trilogy is my go to entertainment when I am poorly and unable to get out if bed!

I always find Jaws cathartic. Particularly after an ear-bashing

i have heard that its very slow and consequently takes a long time nrly 3 hours to get not very far in the story. I think padding this slim novel out to 3 films was a mistake .. i will watch once released in a trilogy format i wont waste my time watching this piece meal. LOTR was different as the novel was split into three books and it generally made sense to split the films. This does not.

I'm going to make my own judgement rather than read reviews.

I also don't have a big fuck off 48fps 3D IMAX cinema in my house. Or I'd play CS:GO on it. :)

Frankly, if its taking longer to watch than it took to read, they're doing something wrong.

I couldn't. I read every character in different voices and try to visualise the scenes. I also attempt to make up tunes for the songs.

It's the little things like that which make Tolkein great for me :)
