Empire strikes back doesn't have a proper ending, it leaves everything open, but it still holds up as an individual movie that you can pop in.

The Empire Strikes Back has a proper ending - under an overarching theme. The film itself has a proper beginning, a multi-threaded middle and a proper ending - with solo the link to the next movie.

Star Wars' overarching theme is the "Rebellion against the Empire" - and it is concluded over 3 movies which each have a standalone story.

The Hobbit's overarching theme is "The Adventure" - and is concluded in a single book, coherently.

The Hobbit Movie has an overarching theme, "The Adventure" and is concluded over three movies, incoherently.

Would you watch this in 3D or normal at the cinema ? I think I'll go tonight.

Spoilers please people :)

See it in 48 fps IMO. You will only be wondering how much better it would have been if you don't :)

Again, missing the point. Here's the same thing in simple terms;

Any good trilogy is one where you can put any three movies in and enjoy individually, even if the trilogy is one big movie.

That's where this movie has to stand on it's own, entertainment without the trilogy crutch.

I see where you're coming from now.

I'm pretty sure it'll entertain. However, it won't be a "good story" - because it's incomplete.

Its like the animated Lord Of The Rings film that came out in the 70's. They stopped halfway through the second book because they ran out of cash. Now, the film was entertaining up until that point - but it leaves a bitter taste because it's not a story...

Yarp that's about it, though i shouldn't use "missing the point" because it looks awfully fingerpointy, like saying "you dumb don't get it" when it's meant as "not quite what i meant" :p

I'm concerned that Scouse and Toht just engaged in an exchange of information that resulted in a mutually agreeable point.

.. It must be a good movie.

Or the world has ended already and this is all some sort of post-apocalyptic limbo..:coffee:

If you can Photoshop a seal's head onto the dog (or take off its ikkle ears) then that image is perfect.

Please :X3:

Edit: To make this on topic, the cat can have a wizard's hat.

The argument for the eagles not doing what the video says they should do is - why would they? Why would they put themselves in danger, they don't owe anyone anything and don't care for the survival of men, it makes no difference to them. So i guess the eagle was blindfolded so it didn't know what it was doing.

The Nazgul's Fell Beasts would have murdered the birds.

That's why they didn't use the eagles.

Gandalf can use one at the end because the Witch King and Co are all tied up in battle / dead.

Also, the Hobbit's sneaking in was such a brave gamble - anything else would have resulted in massive orc stompage.

All the original cast members are 12 years older, funnily enough it's most noticable on Frodo, Gandalf looked old anyway.

Nah - the Eagles are the fastest things in the sky - I guess the best reason would be that they were not immune to the corrupting power of the ring.

Not to mention they are a sentient race, so they might've just been dicks about it.

Also didn't they have their own birdie war at the time?

Really liked it.

It's definitely got the "Hobbit" feel to it rather than Lord of the Rings, with its more playful approach. That's a good thing, though I do miss the Lord of the Rings' own style.

LotR was also more "hero" focused with their smaller party I thought - Aragorn, Legolas, Boromir, Gimli - which made for some cool individuals. Again, different story and they can't do that because of it - but it did remind me how awesome LotR was :)
