I bet Bilbo does that thing when he's confused where he stops, looks away lowers his eyebrows a bit.

Just like he does in Sherlock Holmes. And The Office. And Hitchhikers Guide. And everything else :)

TBH I'm so under-enthused about the Hobbit.

This is going to be a Phantom Menace methinks.

I hope Jackson doesn't fuck around with the Silmarillion. Who will he have playing Beren & Luthien? The Krankies? Kermit & Miss Piggy?

I'm interested in 48fps for movies so the cinema is a must tbfh.

Silly question time! Can't you do that on the PC?

I daresay you could, but whether sky/whoever has the technical ability to broadcast at that rate is debatable.

Also, 48fps in the cinema is a pretty big watershed. I've always detested the fact that panning shots have been jerky as fuck and never understood why they've not bothered fixing that issue. I'd like to see 100fps tbfh, but 48fps is a mahoosive difference - and enough of one to get my bum on the seat simply to check it out from a technical standpoint, if nothing else.

The Hobbit is just the icing on the cake for this one...

Why is Legolas appearing in the new movies?

WTF Peter?! Why couldn't you just make the fucking Hobbit and be done with it? :(

Pictures of him circulating with the bard - and they're saying he's appearing in film no.2 as well...

I'm very worried that it's going to turn out like a complete cheese-fest at the moment. Directors have a tendency to get sloppy with their success. You could well be going "ooh legolas" rather than being completely immersed and lost in the new story. Stuff like that can easily detract rather than add to a story.

Shoehorning old "loved" characters into a film for no reason other than crowd-pleasing smacks horribly of hubris.

Read review of 48ps and it seems to bear out my suspicions..bleeding of light areas. ..props and costumes looking false...the appearance of a high end home movie...the loss of the film effect we are used to...seems over real..thogh they say the 3d panaramors are next to being in a holodeck

That's why I'm going to try 48fps. I find the action scenes in 3D usually blurry and hard to follow in the cinema. Hopefully 48fps will fix this...

Shame that cinemas probably won't do non-3D since 3D makes more monies and the 3d glasses are pure wank. Uncomfortable and darker.

That's cheap for imax tbh. You sometimes pay >£12 for a 3D movie at the cinema these days. It's wank.

Legolas is an elf and thus fairly long lived, thus his presence.

Also the dwarves and Bilbo travel through Mirkwood, as Legolas is the son of the king of Mirkwood...its not suprising he'd turn up.....iforget if we actually does in the book. I think he does, but hes not 'named' hes just "the kings son" or something....

in the hobbit there are two elves specifically mentioned that Bilbo actually speaks to: an unnamed guard, and Thranduil, who is ofc the king of Mirkwood.

It's worked out (with a 10% discount) as £12.06. That's to sit in a brand-new (opens Friday) IMAX seat in the very centre of the auditorium surrounded by my girlfriend and a couple of mates.

That's for 48fps IMAX 3D - for a film that's bound to be at least 2 1/2 hours long set in my favourite fantasy universe by far.

As for the rustling and talking - it's rarely an issue in cinemas tbfh.

I've watched an original Imax movie at the Printworks in Manchester by myself, sat in the 3D sweetspot, think it was Alien Adventures, they put it on for me, good to see Imax returning to it's glory, though I don't know what actual projector they use in the new Imax screens, it can't be the 70mm film one I presume.

Heard from a few people that have seen this that it's fucking seriously boring and massively overlong.

"A few"?? What, you know a load of film reviewers or summat?

Edit: Amazingly IMDB have already got it rated as a 9.0 from 10,369 users.

IMDB should really cut that shit out :)

I sat down and watched Fellowship and Two towers over the weekend. I had failed to remember that there were long and fairly dull parts...especially in the 3 hour cut version!

First time i watched lotr i watched the extended cuts back to back on a saturday. Morning to sundown and yeah, at parts it drags a fair bit. Expecting more dragging from hobbit 1 as they introduce sh*t.
