I do hope Frodo isn't in it. He's not in The Hobbit at all.

No but Bilbo does give Frodo his personal journal 'There and back again' (which is 'the Hobbit' ) when the fellowship reach Rivendell so he could actually present the story.

I'm hoping that in a masterstroke he completely ignores Tolkiens work and based the films on homo floriensis - little ugly hobbit folk running round a desert island - with enough panning shots of mountains he can spin that out to 9+ hours :p

Frodo's in it. Elijah Wood did an interview with Empire not that long ago.

Turns out we're getting "Not The Hobbit".

Which is a shame :(

Its not neccesarily negative - he could be making a decent trilogy its just not going to be the hobbit book.

From what I can gather, he's also using parts from other Tolkien books.

Not really, not at all, the guy wants to maximize his profits, what's wrong with that? - If he does a good job of it, I don't care if it's 3 parts, OMFG STARWARS COULDVE EASILY BEEN 1 FILM.

Star Wars was one film. Originally. The "Part IV A New Hope" title was not in the original theatrical release. It was just "Star Wars".

Scripted 9, initially released as one, later turned to IV --> VI as it took off, then turned to 1-3 + IV-VI for younger generation and reboot value and now 1-3 + IV-VI + VII/7-IX/9 with no younger generation motif.

Simple like a jarjar of midichlorians.

More because "omg children escaped lava death!" sensationalism ;)

But the volcano being more active towards the movie is a plus.

I predict it will be brilliant, and I'm looking forward to two years of waiting for Christmas just to see these films.

Then I'll keenly await the arrival of the Blu-Ray special director's box set edition of all six films.

I'd like to get excited about this, like I was for the LOTR films (got to go to all the Premieres - thanks EA) but I'm just not. I can't get past the blatant money-grabbing, and unfortunately the stain of HHGTTG hasn't washed off Martin Freeman for me; he's OK as a supporting actor but I don't think he can carry a movie.
