Indeed, they were all on lean mixtures. Bit risky IMO, I think I'd prefer they finished the race personally :D

Good race though, enjoyed the battles on track and good to see Lewis and Jenson having a good and fair scrap and enjoying every minute of it :D

All the doubts I had about the pairing of these two at the start of the season have been entirely wiped out. I'm hugely appreciative of it now, and more so of Jenson as a driver.

Can't find a Moto GP thread so I'll hi-jack this one. Rossi out! That's ruined his season and mine.:( Does no one else follow?

Do watch motogp when I see it on the iplayer but not so much.

F1 stuff - the team communications that came out from red bull/mclaren about turkey were pretty interesting and explain why Hamilton looked so unhappy after the race.

I know I'm hijacking the thread a little bit, but it's still F1 related.

Eurogamer have posted a 'hands-on' with the F1 2010 game due out in September. It looks bloody awesome, based upon the EGO engine which games like DiRT2 used.

I've dearly missed playing the old Geoff Crammond Grand Prix games therefore I'm eagerly anticipating this. Anyone else been following F1 2010 and thinking of getting this?

Been following it very, very closely. Certainly looks good, although a bit too "drab" in most of the screenshots but it's the handling and physics I'm more interested in. Out of all the games around, its GP4 and rFactor I still play the most to this day. Both are very nearly 10 years old.

GP4 is still fantastic - the best F1 experience on any platform. I am eagerly awaiting F1 2010 too, it looks great. It's almost as though nothing will ever take GP4's crown though, it's a remarkable game.

Great Q3 yesterday in Montreal (yay Lewis), should be an interesting race with tyre issues (and McLaren and Red Bull going different ways with tyres) thrown into the mix. :)

I have been having a lot of fun recently playing Dirt2 and am quite impressed with the engine. I too have very fond memories of Geoff Crammonds F1 and hope that this is a great spiritual successor.

One worry is that my old Saitek wheel isn't compatible with Dirt2, might buying this game necessitate the purchase of a Logitech G27?

Aye a great race and a great result, I was nervous when it turned out that Hamilton was set to do 44 laps on one set of tyres, (he's not renowned for looking after them) But he done good. :)

Bit of McLaren domination these past 2 races, can't be a bad thing. :D

And RB, I've never been a fan of wheels for rally games, always seemed a bit too frantic for my liking, gamepads (with an analog stick) all the way for those. I had a Logitech Momo wheel a few years ago that was ACE for GP4 though. :)

You're right Cal, I've been using the old Wingman Cordless for Dirt 2, and like I say have been having fun with it. I just don't think that a pad is the right thing for a F1 game :)

Use my xbox360 controller for dirt2 and a Logitech DFP for my GP4/rFactor :D Works wonders. Wheels are ideally suited to rally games but as you say it's just a little too much hard work to get used to :D

Oh man, I've always used keyboard for racing games! :)

It was a great race yesterday, so chuffed with a win for Lewis and the McLaren 1-2.

Anyone going to Silverstone this year? I'm camping for the 3 days, should be good fun, even better if McLaren get the upgrades to their car they're expecting. Another 1-2 there would be sensational.

I'd be extremely surprised if the Red Bulls aren't dominant at Silverstone; they're expected to be the strongest package at the high speed circuits, although you're correct that McLaren (and Ferrari) have updates due that copy the Red Bulls' exhaust flow system. Pundits are still tipping Red Bull for Silverstone and Spa though, with McLaren expected to be the better car at Valencia.

I have a sneaky suspicion (and a hopeful one of course) that Silverstone will be a british whitewash :D

What a spectacle that would be. Hamilton winning, Button second and anyone but a 'Bull third :D

Can't afford to go unfortunately, however will be going to the Renault World Series in September - free tickets if anyone else is interested.

I cant see how the Macca could be the best car at Valencia assuming its a gp better suited for cars with good balance in circuits with many corners.

Imo, the only Mclaren circuits in the near horizon are Monza and maybe Silverstone.

from the horse's mouth:

Christian Horner said:
"Valencia plays to McLaren's strength again, lots of straights, and then we come back to tracks like Silverstone, Hockenheim and Hungary that play more to our advantage.

"There's a long way to go in the championship and it's important on days like this that we limit the damage."

If McLaren can get their Red Bull-esque exhaust update completed for Silverstone then I think they'll be in a very strong position for a potential win, if not 1-2 finish. Will be interesting to see how the teams fare at Valencia, especially the Ferraris which should have their own exhaust update ready to go by then.

Is anyone else going to the Lotus festival at Snetterton this weekend. We're going up on Friday and camping for the weekend.

There's going to be one example of every Lotus F1 car ever produced, with many running on track, including the current ones which have been given special permission by the FIA as in season testing is banned now. Heikki, Jarno and Faruz are all going to be there too, plus masses of trade stands, exhibits, racing etc going on aswell.

Sorry if that sounded like an advert, but it looks like being a fantastic motorsport weekend for those that are interested.

Lotus Festival - 20 June 2010, Snetterton

Aye, posted that on facebook and the IRC chan a week or so ago, quite good :D

Also, having watched the MotoGP at silverstone (via TV of course) this weekend I'm thoroughly looking forward to the F1 now. Great overtaking spot and flows fantastically - we'll have to see how that converts to 4 wheels :D If it's anything like it was with the bikes, then Silverstone goes from "one of the old greats" to "probably the best circuit on the calendar" for me.

Yeah at the time I thought Alonso was just being a whiny bitch but then they showed the replay of Hamilton skipping past the safety car (even slowing down as if he wasn't sure). But they gave him a penalty and he served it. Those other 9 drivers that were to be investigated after the race all did the same thing? I haven't really caught up with what happened there, I know Button got a 5 second penalty but retained 3rd.

Webber = a very lucky aussie though. Would never have thought you could walk away unharmed from a crash like that.

The 9 drivers who got a penalty after the race all got it for speeding during one of the safety car laps, the cars are all given a time they have to match while the SC is out and they all went faster than that. As for Alonso he really needs to man up and stop being such a baby, especially when we're talking about less than a car's length distance between Hamilton having made a completely legitimate move and the move he did make.

What precisely was Hamilton penalised for btw?

I wasn't able to watch the race live and only watched the about 30 mins last night before I went to sleep.

Basically as Hamilton came to the end of the start/finish straight the safety car was just coming out of the pit, he then hesitated slightly before putting his foot down and trying to pass it before it passed the second safety car line (which is the point after which you're not allowed to overtake anymore when the SC has been deployed). Unfortunately the moment of hesitation meant that the SC passed the line about half a car's length in front of him and therefore meant he'd overtaken when he wasn't allowed to. Had he not hestitated tho and just gunned it straight away then he would've been past in time and it would have been perfectly fine from a rules point of view.
