gerrard carragher spearing kelly and flannagan all from the academy

obviously thier are others that have come and gone or are on the fringe ect

but not many teams have any youth players in thier first 11

chelsea have 1.....

Kun is believable, Fab for that price is doubtful unless it is 35cash + player(s) and doubt that about Vidic but never know.

Definately, they have some decent youngsters but nothing outstanding, otherwise they would be pushing for first team starts.

if u look at the team since kenny took over martin kelly jay spearing and john flanagan have played a huge part in turning the team around


i think kenny is looking to the future now rather than trying for instant succsess so i think you'll see quite a young side next season


with spearing flagangan kelly henderson carrol lucas suarez and shelvy as starters/main squad

As I said, good young players but they have been included to push the existing squad who were massively underperforming. None of the three can be classed outstanding though and would not have broken into any of the top 4 squads because of the strength in depth. That is not to say those 3 will not be good enough, infact getting first team football may well be the making of them but I am sure you will admit that none of them have shown signs of being the next Gerrard, Fowler, Owen or McManaman so far.

What Pep has said is ludicrous, you judge academies on the talent they produce over a decade and Liverpool have produced very little. Mainly I would say down to managers who don't put faith in young english lads, taking the easy option and bringing in foreign mercenaries. As someone else said, look to Ajax to see an incredible academy with a track record to match, they even give the youngsters a quality education as well as world class coaching. We English have alot to learn still on the academy front, United have produced decent amounts but the real successes were all local lads who were desperate to wear the red.

Thoughts: Aston Villa focus on Roberto Martínez and Owen Coyle for manager role | Football | The Guardian ? I think Martinez would be great for Villa, bit of a risk though and a huge loss for Wigan.
