Yep, youths do not progress at all, they stay the same for their entire life.:(

No such thing as POTENTIAL :|

Just because a player is good at 15/16 years old does not mean he will become the next Messi.

You know what, I am not even going to bother, it is obviously lost on you.

I find it really funny to read these news stories on places like BBC after reading them on the wires and see how much they take from those stories word for word and publish.

It's not our fault if said players fail to live up to their potential. Not everyone does. ;)

Martin Kelly is a CB mate :p

he's a RB by trade, on fifa on FM and played RB to begin with, played CB as emergency cover and did really well but he is a RB

 We are football. Many managers use our DB as a scouting tool, and we've predicted many a superstar.

aparently igor biscan and anthony le talec are both worth well over 30 million 3-4 years in on the 2004 game :<

i personally disagree

Ok but look at the players who have come out of the academy in the last 20 years. Then look at Liverpool over the same period. Yes the guys running it now haven't had a decade but you have to go on what they are doing right now and it is no more impressive than any of the top 4. Sorry if you disagree but man for man they are no better than United or Blackburn at that level currently and your own club have a very good bunch of under 18's as well.

I dont disagree mate. I dont see how you can compare Liverpools academy with La Masia, just pointing out that results at youth level mean jack.

Fact of the matter is, if English teams want to replicate Barcelona they are 20 years behind, but I dont believe for one minute they want to replicate Barcelona. English teams and Gareth Southgate (LOL) will be trying to find a different way to counteract our style. Every secondary school in Spain has a FIFA acredited coach, with close to 40,000 in total. England has 3,000 in total. Schools start early and close early so the kids can go play football. Spanish scouts look for the player, who may not be the most phyiscal of players, but who is looking around for options as hes receiving the ball, whilst english scouts look for the kid who is years in front of his peers in his physical development. Kids in spain spend hours and hours doing the basics, like trapping a ball, one touch, pass. Over and over so its second nature. Believe me, kids in england dont do this shit. I know because my mates lad plays for Liverpool. They even have them sprinting in and out of cones with no ball. This is just silly.Congrats, you are now a sprinter.

Bang on Marc, have been seeing those issues with coaching since I was a lad, even at district level where the coaches are accredited. Thing is, we know this is an issue and have done for ages, yet the FA never act.

You couldn't copy the Barca/Spanish method over here totally any way because they are totally different leagues and countries, what you can do is try and shoe horn the better parts and ideas of it into the English youth methods.

Add to that the laws that mean you get feck all time with the youngsters each week to train them! And that a kid may have to go to a crap team with useless coaches because they dont live within 90 minutes of a club with top quality youth coaches. Grrrr.

Yes kids need some protection, but this country has a setup that will always hinder youth development. Until that changes there is very little clubs can do in order to compete with Spain

To be fair to southgate, he is trying to implement the better ideas from the Spanish system, we just have to hope his changes are voted in.

When I used to play I got bollocked for playing it out hah, got subbed one time for collecting and just running to the halfway line rather then lumping it up field. :D. What you get for sticking the short lad at centre back.

Makes perfect sense really. Wenger has always been a better manager than a coach, and coming from a defensive player it's no surprise to hear him side with the man who was of a very similar mindset to Adams (defence first).

I always wondered if there had been some sort of falling out, Adams took very little part in the farewell to Highbury and Bergkamps testimonial. Adams could not of been so busy he could not show up?

Agreed, there is something going on. First Parlour, now Adams, Dixon has been critical as well.

This

Which is the point im trying to make. English youth level coaching is a shambles. My mate even questioned the training methods at Liverpools coaching and was shot down with a "who are you?"
