As per usual Marc..

If Barca drops points at Sevilla I can see Real taking it home, leaving Barca with nothing

wtf are liverpool doing

2nd to 7th with virtually the same squad

lost alonso and hypia and got aqualani and johnson

shouldnt be anywhere near 7th.....

Carragher's complete collapse, he's nowhere near the player he was at start of the 08/09 season. Alonso was a big part of your midfield. Torres has spent most of the season injured or carrying an injury in games. Aquaman was injured when signed and rarely played when fit.

I also think Rafa's not been his normal self. He seems to have lost confidence and desire, he's bound to be off before next season.

You might still get sixth, but hopefully Villa can beat Blackburn at Villa Park and finish above you.

re. Liverpool.

Gerrard may be your icon, but Alonso made your midfield tick. The loss of him was bigger then people could imagine, as most people didnt give him the credit he deserved

You need a midfielder that is able to make the passes that Alonso did. Your incoming players dont have the finesse he did

i liked alonso from day 1, loved his range of passing and his eye for goal, proper technical midfielder, everyone else said he was shit up until last season when everyone fell in love with him

infact i remeber saying on this forum that liverpool had the best cm's in the league with gerrard and alonso and got laughed off the thread........

alonso is well overrated

overal he may be "over-rated" if you compare him to the equivalent people that play his position much better (Xavi for example).
However he possessed all the attributes for the playmaker job and made the team tick.. Liverpool no longer possess a player in the midfield that can do that. Gerrard alone aint good enough (and he plays higher up the pitch).

This

Both Xavi and Alonso sit deeper and direct play letting Gerrard/Iniesta play higher up the pitch to link the attack. Liverpool have missed Alonso so much because neither Lucas or Masherano are these type of players. Consequently at times, liverpools attack has no fluidity about it.

In fact, I can think of no one else id rather have if Xavi was injured than Alonso. People will say fabregas, but I dont think hes the same type of player as Xavi, I think he is better utilised higher up the pitch

I think Lucas is the same, and thats why he has struggled. The times he has played further up the pitch in a more AM role he has looked a lot happier and "better".

Alonso's been one of the 3 key factors for RM this season (along with Higuain n CR9). But hes not near the same kind of player than Xavi. Xavi plays much more near the area than Alonso. In fact, if i were the national manager I would play both in my starting 11.

Hopefully next season we will bring a partner for Alonso. Silva would be great.

Anyways, La Liga is in Barca's hands. I dont think theyr gonna lose at Seville, was hoping for Vilareal and they won 1-4 :(

Question: If (and its quite a big if) Fulham were to beat Athletico Madrid and win the UEFA cup, they would automatically qualify for the competition next year. Under UEFA rules would this mean that the team who finish 7th in the league would no longer qualify? ie Could Liverpool miss out on even a UEFA cup place next year?

Nice idea, but no:
UEFA said:
Unless the UEFA Cup titleholder qualifies for the UEFA Champions League through its domestic championship, it is guaranteed a place in the group stage of the UEFA Europa League. If the titleholder does qualify for the UEFA Europa League through its domestic competitions, the number of places to which its national association is entitled in the UEFA Europa League does not change. If the UEFA Cup titleholder does not qualify for either the UEFA Champions League or UEFA Europa League through its domestic competitions, its participation in the UEFA Europa League is not at the expense of the contingent of its association.

However, if Pompey somehow get their accounts signed off or they appeal to UEFA/FIFA/CAS/etc then only 5th and 6th in the league become Europa spots, and Pompey get the spot for the domestic cup winner.

Maybe i'm reading it wrong; but does that then mean that 5th, 6th, 7th AND Fulham would go into the Europa League next year? Seemingly that'd throw the numbers off for the tournament?

Nope you're reading it right, as it stands:
5th = Europa Spot
6th = Europa Spot as Man United won the Carling Cup
7th = Europa Spot as both FA Cup finalists are in other places (Chelsea are in the CL and as it stands pompey aren't in a financial state to enable their participation)

If Fulham win then they get an extra spot, god knows which far away Eastern European team loses it's slot though

They'll be missing Torres, Fabregas and Iniesta and still have a much better squad than us.

I didn't say we would win it. We have no chance, they have slightly better than no chance.
