Rooney and Fletcher have been everywhere this match. Great to see them helping out all over the pitch.

great refereeing display from howarb webb xD

He actually did have a decent game.

Penalty decision was correct.. .people will say "initial foul was outside the area"... but there the amazing thing called "playing the advantage". Valencia showed great maturity by making sure his pace put him into the box before thanking Javier for the little tug on the wrist at the end.

.....
Torres took his goal well, Gary Neville at blame for the space he had as Rio told him to pick him up as Rio picked up a position to block any low ball.
Though it was a good move, and Torres movement was good.

Penalty, Great save from the keeper but calmly done to follow it up by Rooney. I believe that is a goal in every Prem game at Old Trafford this year for him :D

Park, oh Parky boy. Such a work horse... and a lovely diving header... it a rarity to see a true diving header in games now days (unlike what people class as them for some reason). Great ball in from Fletch also.

....
Was a very bitty game in many ways, lots of niggling fouls throughout. Man Utd deserved that victory as Liverpool showed no ambition at all and in many ways it probably a little down to the fatigue from the European game against Lille.... makes a change we benefit from another teams fixtures :D

oO and Torres at the end.. glorious miss, and good old beny giving a nice defensive header into VDS hands

And when no advantage is taken play goes back to the spot of the foul ;)

Great game if you're a Utd fan.

Rules of the game state you can't just play advantage until he's in the box and give a penalty. It's a freekick.

It wasn't just that, loads of little decisions went against Liverpool throughout the game, like Gary Neville on Maxi or Fletcher's malicious kick against Kuyt that could have easily been a red.

There was an advantage though, the advantage was teh extra 10 yards gained and getting into the box to win a penalty. There was seperate fouls in it if you look at the foul move

Remember, if Javier hadnt fouled him in the box then play would have continued after valencia got his shot off. But it was decided that he would put in an additional foul (not the grabbing of hte upper arm, he switched to grabbing the wrist and spinning him which is a different foul) and as such gave away a penalty.

Just poor decision making from the hot head that is Masch

I like that great maturity by riding a tackle out side the box then going down with a tiny bit of contact in the area :)

Neville was a touch fortunate.. BUT... watch the first half and you see Liverpool got away with an identical "high foot" clearance.
I would agree that such a high foot incident should be a freekick but least he was consistant there.

Fletcher, was a little fiesty admittingly but that is a tussle that 9/10 will just get a talking too. 1/10 a ref will bring out a card (red or yellow dependant on ref).

And if you want to talk about cards... Torres could have been sent off. Should have been booked for Ungentlemanly conduct for his penalty spot antics, then the card he got would have been a sending off.

See. We can all make comments about how decisions went the other teams way. Liverpool got freekicks i werent happy about, just like non-Man Utd fans be moaning about the freekicks that went our way

maturity in the footballing sense, as opposed to the traditional sense :)

For the first half at least, Liverpool showed plenty of ambition given they were playing away from home. They may not have created any clear cut chances besides the goal, but they did show ambition and tried to play an attacking game

at the start of the game, i give you that.. but after 15minutes I felt they gave very little in terms of trying to win the game. Much of the game i completely forgot that Gerrard was playing which says alot about Liverpools approach to the game.

...

As for the Penalty, we all know Benetiz isnt one to hold his tongue, yet he had no complaints about the penalty at all and everyone that saw the replay told him it was in the box. That says alot about the decision.

....

And blah, turn back after benetiz interview and see that Chelsea in the lead. Doesnt surprise me mind you.

Not at all, the penalty was a penalty, and he kept the game from boiling over. Only bitter chelski fans wanting an easy run in saying otherwise.

Penalty decision was correct

And what about now sending off Mascarano? Fergie was spitting his dummy! League cup final anyone? lol

Glad you won, but the other results this weekend have gone against Villa's top four chances. Can't see us beating Sunderland at home on Wednesday either really.

Fergi will argue the difference being that Valencia was goal bound whereas gabby was heading away from goal.

Not that I particularly agree with fergi on this one.. though the more Masch gets sent off the better imo :D

Actually Ferguson agreed that Vidic should have walked, it was only some of their fans that argued otherwise.

i only argued about the technicality that the ref would have used to avoid the sending off.. something that ex-pro refs also then suggested was what he done.

<edit line> I was happy the ref used that technicality and support the decision. Though admit i wouldnt be happy if it was the other way. lol. But argue that the ref was kinda in the right to use the technicality if he felt it too early to make such a decision>

And come on blackburn.. hold on to this draw please!!!

edit 2:
Lampard falling in the box and looking to the ref when desperate for a goal... aint that a new one! :p

edit 3:

Rawrrrrrrrrr!!!!!
Thanks Blackburn. Caps a bad week for Chelsea. Terry claims (though he says not) conspiracy because they went out in europe. Guess he have another theory tonight

As I said a while ago Chelsea have too many players injured at the moment and even worse is the performance of some of the key players who aren't injured.

Thing is, this season injuries can not really be used as an excuse. Look at Man Utd, they had massive amount of players (key players also) out injured and are still up there in the running.

All united need to do from now to the end of the season is to win every game and the league is theirs. . . . though i can still see arsenal being the ones to pip us at the post.

If we win all apart from the chelsea game, get a draw there. Then it could come down to goal difference between us and arsenal who got a pretty good run in to the end of the season.

Title hopes evaporated today IMO, we've been absolutely dire in the last 6 games.

Carlo needs to sort it out and sort it quickly else a 3rd place finish beckons again.
