eugh, it looked really ugly. Shawcross was crying after he did it. I probably would too.

The press are quick of the mark, warning the link contains a really graphic image of the incident.

HORROR INJURY FOR RAMSEY AT STOKE | News Of The World

Having seen it a few times its not as bad a tackle as you might think. More a 50/50 that Shawcross, who looked really upset when walking off, misstimed really badly and poor Ramsey has just got very very unlucky. Hope he makes a full recovery, not nice to see things like that.

Why are people so quick to excuse Shawcross?

He can cry all he wants and feel sorry for himself but in the end of the day he isn't the one with the broken leg and the possibility of never playing professional football ever again.

He should grow up and take responsibility for his actions - malice or no malice, I have no sympathy for him.

Nothing against Shawcross i have no interest in seeing it again to know if there was malice but i hope this stops they you have got to let them know you are there attitude. Two late pointless tackles have cost us 2 broken legs and i blame the get in amongst them attitude.

you actually need to watch it again before you start blaming Shawcross or Stoke's style of play.

Horrific injury.. BUT... if there was no injury then there would have been no red card at all.. just a yellow.

Ramsey actually threw himself into the challenge. It was a 50/50 ball and Ramsey went in both feet of the ground and at pace... Shawcross went in with pace and stretched for the ball. The injury is caused due to both players throwing themself into the challenge 100%.

You see these 50/50 challenges where someone is slightly late in every match. There is a booking and the game continues because in actual fact it just down to bad luck if they get injuried or not.

Shawcross did not go in 2 footed
Shawcross did not go in studs leading
Shawcross did not go in swinging wildly
Shawcross did not go in over the top of the ball.

The angle doesnt let you see why the leg snapped, possibly snapped in 2 places infact. My guess is that the force of them colliding was the main culprit with shawcross's body weight coming down as Ramsey's foot hits the floor.
Shawcross could easily been the one the came out of that with the broken leg, my guess is that Ramsey's age is part the reason he got the break with his bones not being as hardened etc compared to shawcross.

That could well seal Joe Cole's world cup fate then - unless he has an amazing run of form between now and June, he'll be left at home.

Shawcross deserves to be there, he had some brillant performances and this shouldnt affect it... unless he mentally incapable to play due to what happened.

I watched it a few times, hate to see such a thing BUT due to my love of the game I wanted to try to understand why this happend.

Shawcross actually was the closest to the ball, though he had lost control slightly. It all comes down to ramsey's pace. He just got the toe poke onto it and due to this stretch his toes/front foot just touched ground as shawcross came in, so it be the sudden halting of ramsey's pace with the force in the opposite direction just being too much.

I guess we be waiting till next christmas to see Ramsey back, hope this doesnt set his career back too much, thought it bad with utd losing Anderson till start of next season with cruciate ligaments

God that looked horrid :( It sucks to bad when this happens, but I really don't think Shawcross should be burned on the stake like a witch for what happened, after reviewing the incident I agree with Corran.

It sucks so bad when these really bad injuries happens tho :( I really hope he get to recover and play football again, but that could very well be the end of his career :(

agree with almost every1 else

shawcross isn't really to blame, he was runnign with the ball ramsey got in to time a toe poke challenge well but absolutly no way could shawcross stop running at that pace, he wasn't even late into the challenge as far as i can see ramsey took the ball and the player shawcross went over ramsey and went about 10 meters before stoping, both players going very fast into each other was just bad luck, on anyother day would just be a good challenge from ramsey, as other said only reason its a red was cos ramseys leg was hanging off.....

shame for both players both young and could ruin both thier careers in differnt ways

edit: lol at matching shawcross up at the start of 3 lines, epic coincedence

With all these injuries that seem to be occuring, why aren't the players better protected in this day and age?

I'm looking at shinpads more than anything, i thought their role was to stop this from happening? Personally i haven't worn shinpads in a loooong time, they where more like a hard-plastic if i remember.

Why haven't they advanced in 10-20years?

I think Ashley Young should have been in there instead of Shaun Wright-Phillips. I would also have had Zamora instead of Crouch.

they stop people getting pointless bruises and knocks but they can't really stop a breakage, even if they were metal they would probly bent and cut the legs clean off or something

ye not having young seems odd when down the left all they have is warnock baines and downing (who has played CM this year anyway)

Well Chelsea managed the ACN period without certain players but with even more off and now having another two sent off with certain players also not on good form it seems we won't be on the top for much longer.

Err no. He has rotated with Milner and Ashley Young through both wide roles and central midfield at times in games, but most interchanging is swapping flanks with Ashley Young.

Capello doesn't seem to rate Ashley, fine, hopefully it will motivate him for the Carling Cup final tomorrow.

And can I just say "WTF!" about that Chelsea performance.

I thought the title race was over.... until cech got injuried. That has turned the race around on its head and it could go to any of the top 3 now as Chelsea without cech is no where near as solid and Terry being the way he is atm just weakens them that little more.

Shinpads now days are a waste of time. The professionals dont use the more solid ones it seems and go for the more flexable ones that are in sections which are overal weaker imo. Never understood that one but what do i know.

A solid shinpad may have absorbed the challenge more and not caused such a serious injury possibly. Would be interesting to actually know the shinpads they used.

Being a Taff, a Cardiff City fan and with Ramsey being a local lad I was ready to blame Shawcross for some thuggery of the highest order having heard about the challenge. After seeing it on MotD there really wasn't any malice in it, just a clumsy challenge imo.

Really feel for the lad though. Fingers crossed it's a clean break (seems weird wishing for that) and he's back sooner rather than later.

Having watched the Shawcross vs Aaron footage the result of the tackle was serious but the tackle itself was a 50/50 one and Aaron came off worse becase he probably had his studs in the ground.

To me, that looks like his ankle went before shawcross touches him. Granted I havent seen the replay.

And I wish Wenger would SHUT THE FUCK UP. CLaiming that teams try and injurer his players on purpose, that there is some kind of vendetta against his players.

Chetan? Shall we take Capellos opinion over yours then? Or will you admit that people are allowed their own opinion?
