Um, i never said I was quitting...

I said, I liked the sound of the 12 month sub, and that I might just do that instead of paying montly...

Learn to read, and then quote me correctly, you sound like a journalist...

Edit: apology accepted. When I started the game, I was new to the whole MMORPG phenominon (spelling?) so I thought I'd go for something easy...

And as for quitting... Once I've tried out the other stuff thats headed our way, if I prefer it to DAoC, then I'll quit... until then, I'll remain in a dark room, with lots of munchies and no life...

the guy who said that Goa are probably being punished for their success as in, Mythic have seen that they are making a fortune and have increased the licence fee to run the game, is probably the closest.

The replacement servers are part of the ongoing maintenance of the game and should be mostly if not wholely accounted for within the existing cost structure. Ditto the increase to 8 slots might have increased their costs a bit but did Mythic raise their prices because of that? No - it's part of the monthly service they provide. Also GoA are hardly going to be cashstrapped with all their new subscribers paying over cash (and their expenses will have gone up very little at all per additional subscriber).

If they are going to raise the prices to be the same as the us then there should be comparable service offered. At the moment the only advantage we have is the Events campaign which has been fun at points but is far too disjointed and far too little to offer much. On the negative side we have a delay on the patches (getting better but still lags the US at least 1 month) and have to use Rightnow instead of ingame CSR. Also the US has access to many servers (we have 2) and a Co-op server. They also have better customer service and feedback via the herald than we do.
I suppose we do get pretty chronicles pages (when they work  ) which must take ages to download on 56K.

Oh also bear in mind that this price is comparable to the US at the moment - when the exchg rates swing back towards 1.55 rather than 1.6 Goa will be cheaper. However I still don't think this justifies a 30% rise at one time like this.

A price hike will be justified when we get the same level as service as those in the US get. At the moment we don't get that same level.

Let's face it, they're a business... they're geared to making money. What better time to raise the prices when most people have just bought SI?

Either way, for a 33% price rise I'll actually struggle to find the extra money. It's not much, but when you condsider all my outgoings as it is... it's a substantial amount to find when I'm getting nothing extra to justify the increase.

Lag is still bad

Contra:
Lag is still bad
Support is real bad
Chronicles suck
Patching is slow
After 1.5 year game is still buggy
People already quitting in huge numbers (after SI alb/Excal had almost 1000 people online at primte-time last few days that went back down to 800-ish)

Pro:
New servers (can take 400+ people without a zone crash...framerate is 1fps though)
New content with SI (paid for that by buying the box didnt I?)
Inflation (yes 3% not 30%)

This time i'm allowed to blame GOA. Fucking French arses....you've just lost 2 players (me and the gf)

Then apologies from me as well, if i offended. I've been around the boards too long to know that a lot of the folks just like a good flame and moan at others expense. Which is why i post rarely.

Judging from this thread, the rate increase will significantly thin out the server population of foul-mouthed, xenophobic, short-tempered wobbly-throwers - at least, if all the people who post things like "fucking useless french wankers - i'm off" actually do follow through and quit forever.

Is that worth an extra 1.66E/month? You bet! :great:

GOA themselves may be performing fairly well with an influx of cash following the SI release, but I think it is worth looking at the parent. Wanadoo have just undergone a round of cost cutting exercises following poor financial performance including a large number of redundancies (though I understand the DAOC team at GOA survived these redundancies intact) and it is not uncommon for companies to look to squeeze the very best out of their profitable subsidiaries when times are tough. Maybe this is the driving force behind the increase?

I agree with Alrindel but I dont put myself in any of those categories, I only ever flame NP and if it wasn't for french cusine (cheese/wine) I would cry. (If you have never tried frogs legs in garlic you haven't lived <seriously>).

Simply can't afford/justify the price hike, and from the general concensus on my main server as soon as subs run out they are off. And the guild as a whole will re-roll on a new game (not sure which yet).

But with swg you can move you're us char to euro char on release and this is a very attractive option and with 90% of my guild moving, playing odd USA times won't seem as harsh. Either that or move to WoW.

Heck its the Summer, stop the game, save up ya pennies (for upgrade pc or new game or getting pissed). Get a tan and come back to new mmorpg,

They did - in that no one was fired. However, it did stop them hiring the new script (Event) writers that were about to join.

Be careful. Saying, "I don't think that the game is worth the new increased rate, so I will let my subscription lapse and spend my money elsewhere" is a perfectly reasonable and sensible opinion, and more power to you. Saying "a rumoured, unconfirmed feature on a game that may or may not be released this year is much better than DAOC so I will quit for that reason" is silly.

I think a whole lot of people here are missing the psychological impact of the raise. A 3 month subscription to me means absolutely nothing in financial terms, £22 = a couple of pizzas, a case of beer, it is part of my disposable income along with my 1mb cable, PC upgrades, cable TV etc, you get the picture.

What the rise does do is focus me on the game though, I look at ever decreasing guild numbers, friends who I play with giving up (not related to this just natural wastage) or cutting play time back substantially, my increased boredom at the whole PvE thing (3rd 50 approaching and it's exponentially harder getting the effort to hunt). My whole 'experience' is diminishing and I guess like a lot of people i'm running on autopilot, my sub go's out every 3 months and I log on every night just like usual.

Well this morning that just changed, I looked at the mail, I looked at SWG beta3, I looked at myself re-playing Diablo 2 because it's still fun (even better now that Blizzard deleted 130k accounts off Battlenet for using hacks  ) and I voted with my wallet, auto subscription renewal has been terminated. I dont doubt a lot of people will carry on, and on the FR/DE servers i'd bet an ever bigger percentage will stay on because being a localised game still makes it quite unique but for me at least it has signalled the end of the line.

If you want to make a point to GOA turn off auto-renew, i'm sure they must have a report forcasting their monthly incomes.....

To Alrindel, fair comment but:

"Bare in mind that "when" there will be any European servers you are able to move your char there (as promised in an interview)."

Now I know theres a link somewhere but cannot be bothered to fish for it for an hour or two ;-). Promised in an interview may not mean it will be implemented but Im fairly sure they would'nt back track on that, plus this will allow them to initially populate the euro servers with established players and almost have an instant community.

And swg is in beta 3 now so not long till release prob as long as my sub is on daoc.

SWG may or may not be released this year I agree with you on this. Im leaving daoc directly because of the price hike/affordability and lack of sweetener reasons for it not because of swg.
