The space bit is fine, but the ground stuff.... Just had my first ground "fleet action", what a pain. Plus then the servers went down!

Enjoying being in an escort.

found the ground stuff jerky and crap .. saw i had to reverse my gfx drivers but i refuse to do that as it will break dragon age ... space is slow combat is boring fly around and keep your best shield to the nme and auto your fire ... zzzzzzzzzzz

flying in space feels like being in jelly also ..

they could have made it much better but not for me tbh

tbh early levels (1-11) dont give you a good impression of space, and tbh you need to be 21+ to appreciate it more.. also being in a group or doing fleet battles gives a different feel to the game.

Ground isnt exactly good and feels rushed together...

Played it a bit more last night. The ground battles are the worst and only thing that bugs me is on Earth Space Dock where you spawn in, more often than not I can't move for a while as 20 other people have arrived and I can't move. but other times I can walk through other players. I love the space combat, it reminds me of a stripped down version of Starfleet Command but easy to play, getting used to using the feats during combat and have already swapped my front phasers for more powerful disruptor's, making my Centaur a bit more deadly. The more I play it the more I want to get it, some of my Clan have joined now so may make a fleet, which should be fun.

Has anyone requested a forum for this game yet?

do we really need one?

the only game forum thats actually being used on this board is DAoC. WAR section died pretty damn fast and the others havent had a decent post in them for years and years. (out of the MMO sections)

cryptic have their own forum that will get used alot more. opening one up here will just mean yet another section collecting dust.

It's deinitely not worth basing opinions of this game on 1-11 experience, this is basically the tutorial/learning period.

When you get into tier 2 ships it becomes a lot more interresting and in all honesty, pvp is where the fun is at right now. Currently they have some massive balancing issues and the Klingon side is woefully under-strength, but it's a lot of fun to play.

Ground is pretty poorly done, it's jerky, buggy and clunky and needs work.

Klingon is pretty much their version of LOTRO's monster play monster side, it's fun, but it's almost all pvp with no storyline at the moment. Currently the klingons struggle against the more powerful Fed ships in tier 1, mainly because the starter ship for the fed is more powerful and has 6 levels of pve equipment that the starter klingon ship doesn't have. However, this is changing in the next patch where the Klingon starter kit gets a buff.

Tier 2 is a different matter, with more balanced ships and equipment and a variety of ships and skills it's crazy fun. You have to be so careful what to attack, how to attack it and when. Identification is key and it's quite well done. Nothing more fun than decloaking a squadron of BoP's onto an unsuspecting cruiser and blasting him into bits before he can even call for help, it takes real team-work to win, you cannot simply rush in and kill everything as you will lose.

Tier 1 is plagued with the Fed phaser-ball. Fed ships have large arc beam weapons, Klingons have more focussed disruptors which requires more careful lining-up. Fed ships in pvp atm can sit in one big ball and they win, Klingons cannot get enough damage in unless they all assist and even then as the Fed ships are tougher, they ultimately lose. Tier 2, this is not the case. With tractor beams, science ships, proper tank cruisers, high DPS fast escorts etc it's more tricky and a completely different proposition.

My personal opinion is that this game needs another 3-6 month development, but in it's current state it is fun and playable. I'll be subbing from day 1, but not expecting miracles. It's definitely not in the best release state at the moment, but not much worse than any other mmo launch. I hate this, but that seems to be the nature of the beast with mmo's, always released too early.

Are there any plans for a FH fleet? There's only 2 of us from my old WoW guild playing ST:O.

Im in a german fleet where i dont understand a thing, merely because i grouped with someone through the end of CB that formed it.. .
So will need something for retail, thats for sure.

I agree that the game is rushed, but from what Im gathering they got no choice but to release it, and it not Atari that forcing it.

It appears that CBS gave them only a 2 years to get teh game out in the contract for the Star Trek IP, if the game was not released inside 2 years then they would not be able to release it. This is due to the fact CBS got screwed by the previous IP holder who ended up doing nothing with it for years and they protected themself with this clause

I pretty much agree with Tallen, and I will be in it from the start also. Not sure on the LT sub. My birthday on 6th of feb so may get self an early present

Not sure on the LT sub.

I'm kinda torn - I'm very tempted to go for the LT sub, is about £150 (ishish) and I'm sure I'll be playing it for the next 18 months or so (give or take Old Republic) but £150 is still a fair whack.

I don't think I've ever paid that for a car, nevermind a game!

Yes Meg, one off payment of $239.99 / ~£150 along with you needing to purchase a copy of the game.

It isnt a one off though

this pre launch is cheeper though.

LT before 2/2/10 - $239.99 (£154 ish) - This allows you to play a liberated borg (no other way to get this) and gives you 5 character slots instead of 3 (normal is 2 + you unlock a 3rd to make a klingon/other fed)

From 2/2/10 you can get a LT without any of the bonuses (no borg/character slots) for $299.99

....
I am really torn about what to do... i got a LT for Champions online and enjoy that game but not played for awhile due to xmas and Star Trek.... i wish they gave me a discount for having that (even 10%) as i would definately purchase it then.

aye, forgot to mention that it.
still hard to decide, though that is 20 months worth of subscription if you assume the £8.99 does include the tax. ( i would hope it does. lol)

Basically the EU gets screwed due to the tax, as they say it about 16months worth of subs when it closer to 2yrs worth.

What to do, what to do.

I don't think the 8.99 includes tax either, all their prices seem to exclude local taxes.

I'm going to wait till the end of my free month before I decide, I am definitely not doing the lifetime sub, as I never play games that long. May go for the year if it's improving after the first month though.

edit:// just confirming that VAT is not included, from the sto site:

At launch, we will also offer a host of other subscription options, detailed below.
USD CAD GBP EUR DKK 1-Month Recurring 14.99 16.49 8.99 12.99 82.45 3-Month Recurring 41.97 46.17 25.17 35.97 230.84 6-Month Recurring 77.94 85.73 46.14 65.94 428.67 Prices displayed are not inclusive of VAT for purchases from the European Union (EU).
VAT is charged in accordance with the local legislation in each member state and varies from 15% to 25%

So we will pay £10.56 a month, which is really too expensive IMO. Works out as £9.85 per month inc vat for the 3 month, and £9.03 for the 6 month.

True but if you do the math (and have the money) It's about £216 all in for a lifetime sub including the game. That's about £9 a month over 2 years.

i never take the game cost into account, as subs and the game at seperate.

Way i see it a game i purchase for £30 will only be played for a month anyways (most of them). In which itme it completed multiple times then discarded into the depths of the draw.
So the game purchase is taken already (btw i only paid £17 so the total wouldnt reach £200 even for me).

But still find it strange on the tax not being in the price, thoguh they using CBS needing a cut as a reason for higher price of the LT compared to the CO LT.

I didn't get charged VAT when I purchased via PayPal. Saved me £20 - thanks!

Did you do anything special? Is your paypal account registered in the US?? Did you follow a link off the american STO site rather than changing the country to UK? I could be convinced at 150.....

it to do with how you set up your account... you could start a new account and set it up as the US.
My only problem is I wont have my headstart benefits and dont know if i get my pre-order bonuses if i dont put the key in the same place.....

20quid aint a big deal, but would be nice not to have to pay it as im trying to save for the wedding. God it amazing how quickly 18months comes round, half the time already passed :(

Well I am having a laugh. Just sent billing an email to see if they will change my location to United states to enable me to pay in $US

I expected to be told NO because I have pm'd one their forum guys to query why some people are paying without vat and others being charged with it even though they could be neighbours but it been ignored, and i made comments on the forum about it as well.

Just testing to see what they say about it, more out of interest then anything else. lol
