aye, escorts on both side needs a slight nerf, or a big buff to the cruiser because right now flying a cruiser in pvp feels slightly pointless.

its supposed to be the damage soaker but it really isnt now :(

thing is escorts are extremely weak when someone actually targets them.

escorts strength comes from good picks for the BO. anything to buff survivability helps in hands of a competant player.

Such as polorise hull = cant be tractor beamed.
sheild replenishes (multiple ways) help greatly.
tactical abilities (cannon:rapid fire)

These all hlep you take out a target quick. In pve if you nerf them then you will find escorts are useless because they wont have the DPS or survivability or the science abilities.

Cruiser probably needs a survivability boost, rather then an escort nerf.

started using jam sensors on mu cruiser and it helped somewhat atleast on the 1v1's. but the DPS is still to low to actually manage to do something with it tho.

having a really really hard time finding a beam still that ups the DPS enough.

best i've found so far is beam: fire at will lol.... and that REALLY only works on 1v1's as it fires on everything thats within 10 km.

tho its superb against nubs using mines :)

tried out beam overload now and while the damage it does can be quite nice (tho only 1 beam seems to count insted of all 4 i have even if they all fire) its basically a suicide ability as it drains all weapon power.

so using that for anything other then a finisher is a bad bad idea.

and all the while those that use torps can spam their ability (forgot what its called) that only have a cooldown.

beam overload is only useful if their shields are down and you got weapon battery to instantly replensh power.

Oh, and the super speed full impulse is still in the game, just most dont know how to activate it :D

Hit you EM first, then whilst the animation is going hit full impulse. Clear half the map in seconds on large fleet encounters. lol

Go here. Blow them up.
Go there. shoot those guys
Go over there. collect that
Beam somewhere and do it again.

Not very Star Trek so far. Looks very nice but virtually no content. Will leave it for 6 months I think, see if they add anything interesting. (Yes I know its still classed as Beta but it is the finished game)

The patrols suck...

the episodic missions are great storylines and very startrek like... also you can go out way to do extra starfleet type things (heal injured npc's etc) for bonus xp and what not.

They need to:
1) Reduce patrol missions
2) increase episodic missions
3) implement an "open pvp" area
4) Fix the genesis/exploration part of the mission
5) Implement some better "crafting" system.

All things they can do in the first 3 months if they really want to.

Oh... and as for PvP... Play fair? nope not me. I bring a starship to a gunfight!

ouch, the buggers gone and hit their server cap (not their beta server cap, but their currently technology server cap).

No one else can get logged in, and they havent thought of a queuing system so people are left to button mash to get in.

Bloody glad I was gonna log off soon, though a bit annoyed i couldnt complete the annoying mission i was on.

Good luck to anyone trying to get in, and hopefully i get an answer as to the current server cap, what they plan on having cap wise for retail, and what they will do about it if they reach this cap.... i expect to get silience

they have a post about that. they are bringing in more servers to up the cap.

thats the beauty with their setup. theres no hardcap like in DAoC's servers, just add more machines and instantly x thousand more can connect.

pretty sure they will have more then enough capacity at release. we had this cap issue in CO aswell but never again at release.

thats also a plus when it comes to how they do the server setup, it takes no time at all to hook up new servers, and even if they dont get used to the max theres no worries about clustering or merging, so they can pretty much add as many as they feel like or can afford to.

Never had this problem with CO at cb/ob/headstart/release. It was no where near as anticipated as this game and they know that so should have been much better prepared imo.

And the bit that is worrying is the "as many as they feel like". As a small company I can see them keeping it to a minimum and players suffering. Hopefully I am wrong.

May go and have a look on GameSpot. See if they got their latest STO release on yet. Had a chat with them ingame and hoping they dont use stuff i said out of context (or at all :p ).

The server issue has me thinking i need to get something to constantly press a key every 20mins to keep me logged in. Hate this trying to log in when it hits 4pm onwards due to the damn americans.
So hard to get ingame in the evening when can get some good tiem in it is annoying. Think im up to 100 attempts to log in whilst reading stuff :p

edit:
rawr im in.

hit the level cap though, so probably just do a load of secure missions so i have every sector ready to turn in...
then when i got the 10gb i need on laptop i do explore.. had to delete the piggs folder to fix a crash issue due to CB data that doesnt get patched :s

Hmm I've got this now, it is very very buggy, what is up with your character constantly not changing from person to ship and back?

Ho hum, it is very good fun though. No more gym on sundays from now on, it's been renamed STO day.

That is linked to not having enough servers in the cluster at the moment. The server hasnt realised that you changed areas and so hasnt updated you.

You dont have that problem when the US is asleep :)

Still haven't been able to connect yet, so I can't see what the game is like. Just have to look on Giantbomb's playthrough videos and wait.

but I did! I had the problem from yesterday morning, long before the yanks should have been up :(

It's annoying having to change instance just to load your character properly.

Lots and lots of bugs with movement on the ground as well, the camera tracking and targeting is awful, it really does not feel like a game that is going to be launched in two weeks.

I've had no problems at all connecting, when it's said busy, I've always managed to get in after 3 or 4 tries.

should be easier to connect during the week unless yanks are using a bot to keep logged in whilst at work/school.

Im reinstalling 9gb worth of data on laptop. damn connection lost. but think it only about 4gb of data needed which at this time of day is very quick. 250mb in 5minutes.

I think I need to look at a lot of stuff in the ground options. There are options to stop camera tracking etc.... not sure if there an option to "keep camera behind" as that the annoying thing. Can turn off the always look at target camera, need to also see if can stop auto turn to target as that messes with keys, auto turn and forward is back etc. gah!

had a quick go today, seems quite good fun - like the ship/3d mix, keeps it interesting, time will tell , and as mentioned above, it does feel a bit too Beta-y for a close release date

I agree, it is a bit too buggy in places, i think that why we locked into these few zones. It gives them time to work on the higher zones that had lots of critical issues that left you in a dead end. We managed to clear out the low level area bugs just before OB started.

Really hoping they unlock more area soon, higher levels are much more fun.

The game is really really easy when solo, I really enjoy groups more because it so much more choatic with ships everywhere meaning you cant just sit and reinforce one shield as other ships are moving onto different ones and pummelling them :)

User name is Ch3tan, starmie character name is errr Bador I think.

And Corran I'm still finding and reporting low level bugs that haven't got open tickets, so I don't think your assessment is that accurate.

their bug reporting system is weird.. most the things dont come up when you search which is annoying. I search for things I reported 2minutes before when i know the title and it doesnt show up.

Just annoying like that.

And the small bugs arent game stopping, they been ironed out. In CB there was a problem with missions not being able to get completed at all as the counters werent updating, thus you couldnt level without hoping to get into pvp matches to gain a few levels for the next mission unlocks.

Currently the "dont complete" missions can be got around. If you hail starfleet from inside the mission instance you can turn it in, but if you go to sector space it shows as incomplete and you got to do it again.

Im still reporting little bugs, but nothing that stops gameplay

Finally got on to play it yesterday, I love it I normally hate all MMO's but this I like, did the first few missions. liking the ship customisation though I was v tired when I got home last night so my ship is called the U.S.S. Clevedon (where I live) but its only the beta, part of me wants to get this game now. Liking the fact all ships are in the same place for missions, I helped out a few guys who asked for help taking out borg cubes.

wait till u get to the resource battles. a whole zone jampacked with borg cubes and spheres :)

its quite a fucking pain in the arse as they ALWAYS start by beaming their drones onto your ship killing half your crew so everything you do wont be at full capacity xD

Corran - I've had missions I can't complete because the enemies don't spawn and various other issues. I really don't understand why you are defending the state of the game here and trying to deny what I have to say?

Also the bug reporting system not working properly is ridiculous.

I like the game, but it is not ready for release from the low level stuff I've played so far.

what MMO is ever ready for release when it comes out? :p

I havent had a single mission that I can not complete due to bugs, all of them have been completed.. only missions that I know that have counter problems are the randomly generated "genesis" missions in the exploration zones. Yes this is an issue but you can just leave and get a different one within 5 seconds.

Im not defending the state of the game, just stating there no gamebreaking bugs that prevent you from being able to progress. THere are plenty of little bugs but nothing that makes the game impossible to play.

Maybe I just expect there to be lots of little bugs due to every mmo having them (especially on release), but as long as they dont affect my ability to progress I can put up with that. And at least they generally keep the player up to date as to the fixes going in etc which alot of companies dont, so credit to them for that.

And yes, it is rediculous that the search function of the bug system doesnt work properly, something that been a problem since champions online beta, however it still a better system then most bug report systems that dont let you just do it from ingame easily. But hopefully once they done with this release they can actually fix it
