Ok. What do you reckon...would this work (PvE/RvR)?

35 Parry
42 Shield
39 Weap
36 SC

48 :) Our dd's get resisted to much as is. If you want lower SC make a warrior :p

The ONLY thing a Thane gets that a Warrior doesnt is Stormcalling, if your not gonan go heavy in that line, there is absolutely no poitn rollign a Thane, it defeats the purpose of the class.

What you sugggest is:

Giving up Pure Tank Weaponskill, HP Table, Tank RA's, Cheap IP/Purge, Large Shield, Increased Base Damage, Evade 1.

And in return getting a powerpool and a 60% specced spellline.

Think of it in that way and you will soon see there is no poitn rolling a thane unless you go for 46-48 Stormcalling. (Some may argue there is no poitn rolling a Thane for any reason whatsoever :D)

Hehe

Only reason you did it was for "all the pretty lights" huh Solid?

;)

Not really.

Nov 2001 I didnt know jacj shit about this game, I loved the appeal of a Dwarf Thane, I rolled on in beta, was fun, but I still didnt know shit about the game or my class and how it compared to other classes.

Feb 15th 2002 I rolled a Norse Thane after enjoying my Dorf Thane in beta so much (days of Stungard and albs in grey con Armour/Weaopns) and still didnt know much about the Game.

Enjoyed Thane in PvE for 6 montsh till I hit 50 and enjoyed RvR for a while pre SCing, pre Epic armours, Pre RA's, Pre SI.

I now know a hell of a lot better and yes the only reason to roll a Thane is for "all the pretty lights" cos thats all you get that a warrior doesnt.

If i was overly cobncerned about rolling the most competitive Mid melee class I would have rolled a post 1.50 pre 1.62 Zerker or a Savage or even a warrior.

Hindsight is a powerfull tool and I am trying to help others out by pointing out to them at an early stage what I didnt have the knowledge of back when I started my Thane.

then why make a thane? :eek7:

As solid says, unless you really like the ability to do pulls/selfbuffs, theres no real reason for rolling a thane over a warrior ;)

Why dont you make this spec:

50 SC
34 Axe
42 Shield
20 Parry

leaves you left with 0 points...

perfect spec IMO :)

ok good points. so you would recommend not bothering with thane at all (as I have a warrior)?

My original plan was to make a much more dependable thane that could take care of himself (due to the decent parry/shield) but still had some lightning up his sleeve and fairly decent weapon spec too.

I still enjoy playing my thane, even considering wasting mp armor/weapons on him to get a decent sc template. Dont underestimate thanes in either pve or rvr, they are great fun to play and they actually hit hard aswell ;)

Its not worth going higher than 48 (im currently 46) sc for the last dd, the str/con buffs are a joke if you group with shammys anyway.

And yes, ive beaten as much warriors in duels as they have beaten me, i do have 5 more int than everyone else ;)

42/42/48 is a good spec, but if you want some parry then drop weapon to 39 and put thoose points into parry. Without the SC line your damage output will be low. Its our dd's that keep up our damage. Since I got my spellcrafted armor, I take down enemies before they even reach me. :) Or outnuke casters without that 15 sec uninterruptable RA. Pretty fun to kill a caster with your dd and castable dd :) But our spells use way to much power/end for the damage they do.

I'm fairly happy with my spec..

48 Sc
42 Shield
39 Hammer
14 Parry

One of the main problems I have with thanes is due to lack of a Positional Stun style in any of the Midgard classic weapon lines 2H Thanes kinda suck.

At leasta Warrior can go 50/42/39 and get max weap and Slam.

A Thane that wanted to go 50/48/32 (Weap/SC/Parry) gets no positinal stun to mak them viable (like the LW Champs out there).

Thanes need to be given a reason to drop Shield spec, and atm we dont have one.

Going 44 hammer/46 SC/42 shield.

I have 42 hammer atm cause I'm only 49.5 and I'm happy with the spec so far ;)

a thane needs his sheild, because imo he needs a stun style.

thanes are good in pve, but all the SC suits out there and pitiful defence (no evade/low hits) makes it a tough class to play in rvr.

Yes i know, but the general idea is this: picture yourself as a caster with slam ;)

1) he hits you... you DD, pbaeDD+slam, let lighting come down on him ;) (with other words: keep casting when hes stunned)
This works fine with 1 vs 1....

2) Zerg vs Zerg: just use ae mjollnir...... best rvr spec still IMO :)

you can still do that with 48 lightning and still have a decent damage output with your weapon ;)

Or.......... :)

2Handed full offensive Thane.... ;)

50 Sword
48 SC
31 Parry
8 Shield :p

Why 2Handed?

Chance of parry increases, max dmg output ^^

Why Sword?

Well, you have lotsa parry, and Sword has a nice 3 combo after parry style... + lvl 50 backmove :D and ofc decent normal opening moves :)

Why 8 Shield?

1 word: ENGAGE :D good for those nasty scouts/rangers :)

How much points left? 0 :):):)

Now reply to this one Cami ;)

yib, im a 2h thane but im going 50/50/28 (27 in 1.62 for engange in shield) /8 Basicly because Solid told me to! :p
Anyway I lub it alot (again, if I might add. old tindy was 50/50/28 too, but shield instead of parry, no comments :p ) and I have a warrior that does enough blocking for me :p

You realise that dds hit for less than 150 on anyone with half decent resists right?
I changed my spec to 46 sc 44 hammer 42 shield and im totaly happy with it. I dont get to cast single dd at rvr anyway to be of any use and the damage by melee offsets what might be lost.
