Check that the enb desn't require something else like, what's that thing, skse? Also try launching in windowed.

Loading a pre-modded save with a new install(even with all the same mods in) will most likely crash any game. This is a given ofc :p

If all else fails you could try installing the stuff you want and then load a game that's at the very start since sometimes the starting animation/character creation is a problem.

In any case it's a good idea to make a "fresh save" where you have nothing installed, but it's past the starting area (preferably after you made your stormcloak/imperial choice and are inside the keep). Then you can put anything on that save and it'll probably work(and if not, then it's a mod/install problem as it's a clean save).

So in a nutshell;

Start a new game with no mods(basic skyrim), get inside the keep, save and use that save as the "go to" modding save. (starting from an inside area helps).

Then you can get a character customisation mod if you want to change your default appearance.

Dis is what i've been doing :p

Completly blank, no saves, no other other mods, tried with and without SKSE. If i remove the enb dll/exe, works perfectly so its defo enb fucking up.

So I've added a few more cosmetic mods and finally got the courage to play around with the ENB plugin. I turned off some of the usual modes, depth of field for example is a real FPS killer and makes it look worse to me. However I hadn't realised the ENB Boost stuff actually helps the general game performance. Almost no more stuttering due to the larger HD textures. I think it's started to look really good now IMO and my FPS is stable.

What armor mod is that? Looks really nice (please don't tell me it's stock textures :) )

been playing a bit yesterday, and I realized that I hadn't added the TES exe to the profile thing in Nvidia (maybe, I also set AO to performance rather than quality) and *boom* insta FPS jump! now it's cool when it snows because I have 35FPS rather than 10 :D

Anyway, the FPS in my setup seems to have a mind of its own sometimes there are drops for no apparent reason :/ I do have all the 'enhanced' towns/villages/cities etc, and used to have the uber grass thing (which is deadly for ones frames) but took that off. I will try without DOF to see what that does, but tbh I actually like the effect :)

I'm using this one - http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/48526/?

It gives metal on armour & weapons a more realistic shine rather than the default matte look.

From what I've read you're supposed to disable all forced settings in your gfx driver and purely rely on tweaking the ENB settings since it does it's own thing, typically faster. But hey, whatever works :)

afaik I have everything set to 'application preferred', but nothing to 'off'. I will give that a whirl.

I did mean always use "leave to application" or whatever the default is.

Discovered the problem with ENB in the end was Dxtory clashing with it. Have to remember to close dxtory before launchign skyrim now.

Got the realvision enb installed atm, but i'm not enjoying it so much, thing slook clearer but...odd somehow, like they are to bright outside. IN dungeons n stuff its all ok.

What ENB presets to people recommend? Preferably without letterboxing...

well, tbh I am a bit unsure what to do. ENB seems to be able to talk to the GFX card and tell it what to do. to me this means either app preferred or off in the driver. I'm ok with a lowish FPS because I do run a sky-high rez, but that said I turned off DOF effect for the ENB and am now back on +60FPS indoors and ~45FPS outdoors. Pity tbh, as I actually really like DOF :-(

Hmm after some more tests with a "minimally intrusive" ENB it would seem that my GFX card is simply murdered by any DOF calculations. that, or my fairly extensive tweaking in the ini files is being a pain. Imma write some school things now but maybe laters I will have a further faff about.

Loved the graphics, enjoyed the story.

However, the mechanics of it were shit for me. Combat is ridiculously easy and is clearly designed with a controller in mind. Isn't anyone even attempting to make AI better nowadays? It's been the same since about '98 :(

Yes there are, I believe this is the best of the AI / combat improvements - http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/2700/?

Meh. Modded AI. Make 'em run in circles a bit more and rebalance the weapons.

I'm glad that modders are having a go - it shows that there's a demand out there for better AI in games and that what games developers have come up with doesn't cut the mustard.

it's actually pretty good. thing is my char is grossly OP compared to the in-game lvling system that it's extremely rare that I die to anything. time to put deadly dragons and realistic needs back in imo!

hehe fully reinstalled ENBdev and the Skyrim Beautification ENB. Then sat around wondering why I had 100+ FPS at full rez (2560x1440) until I realized I had all the eye candy turned off. Then I started tweaking :) Here's some screens from my work in progress tweaks. Running ~50FPS atm. Also, DOF...love it / hate it. Saw it mess up totally for the first time and that completely broke my immersion :-/

If anyone's interested in my ini's you can have them if you like. Let me know and I'll post em.

I made alllllll kinds of changes. Unfortunately my game is now unstable, where it once was pretty rock solid :-/

anyway...moar screens!

My char all camo like. Actually he's freezing to death but hey ho. Note the uber rocks!
ss4.png

Moar uber rocks and looooootsa trees. Dem trees eh.
ss5.png

Around the corner from the waterfall. I have one of those IPS panel monitors that does Adobe colour space and the pastels that you get with Skyrim Beautification are just delicious :D
ss6.png

Anyway, like I said unfortunately my game is now buggered so until I nail it down again there will be no ini's because I don't want to mess you guys up.

Had a funny moment today. Came out of a cave I had been sniffing round and a chicken sprints past me, then another, then groups start running past. Turns out the village up the road was getting attacked by Forsworn.

haha yeah are you running immersive patrols?

yesterday I was, you know, just exploring somewhere and I came across an EPIC battle between Stormcloaks and Imperial troops. I mean full on bowmen sniping, mages duking it out with some pretty hard core magic, and a whole mess of swordsmen mixing it up. It was so epic I just hid in a bush and watched. After a bit the Imperials won and formed up in an orderly column (as you'd expect) to march off the field, leaving a shitload of Stormcloak separatist dead behind.

aargh! because of my framerate niggles I caved in and bought a GTX 780. the god-box has become a little more godlike, and I expect much better performance in my 2560x1440 rez. anyone WTB a near-new 770? I have the box and everything...

Right, I just bought this, along with all the DLC and shit, what mods should I download for it?

I don't want anything mega fancy that completely ruins the game, just stuff that makes it more interesting and stuffs, and also how do I download them? - can you do it through steam workshop yet?

Thank you bffltily.

yeah you can get some of the mods via Steam but tbh *all* of them are on the Nexus network, and the Nexus Mod Manager isn't that bad these days (few glaring things, but hey ho).

tbh I'd say that you should just play the game for a bit as is, to find out what you do and don't like about it and also to be able to value the work of the modders. Then it's unoffical patch time, skyrim script extender and skyUI, and after that things like the high-rez packs, sounds of skyrim, climates of tamriel, birds of skyrim, realistic lighting and things like immersive patrols, for, well, immersivity. Smarten up your foes with the Duel combat overhaul and Deadly dragons mods.

After the above it's up to you really. If you want full eye-candy consider installing an ENB and it's settings, but that is a bit of a pain tbh, and Steam will mess stuff up if you get it wrong or change anything in your system. ENB lets you tweak your processing (eg SSAO, AA, AF), visuals (DOF, filters, lenses) and certain aspects of the game (like time, how long it takes for the sun to go down/up, what colour it is, how light works etc, etc.).

I did play the original game on the Xbox, but I fucked up the campaign towards the end, I defeated the Empire, but then the main story told me I had to speak to a bloke I killed earlier :(

in that case the patch is your friend I guess. also, you can mod Thomas the Tank Engine in to the game and he will attack you. what more is there in life?

even more screens. at first I was just dicking about testing some stuff...

ss7.png

Here we have Lydia sporting a full suit of epic ebony plate. I'm prolly the only Skyrim player in the world who hasn't dressed her in JRPG cosplay.

ss8.png

I found this crypt filled with dead things, and two lost Imperial guards at the bottom of it. They looked at me like "you're late chum :p" and I left again after looting all the chests.

ss9.png

Random bit of ruin half way up a mountain.

ss10.png

Some of the more atmospheric stuff from recent quests. I'm particularly proud of the middle one. I nearly shat myself when that dude came barreling out of the mists 0_o

ss12.png ss13.png ss14.png

All in all, pretty stuffs!
