We had issues when we laid grass seeds down, what worked was a plastic model of a hawk sat on the wall. Birds apparently recognise shapes. You can also buy audible bird scarers but that is over the top imo for a garden. If you do buy a hawk just remember to move it around at least daily or the birds will get to know it is not real quite quickly.
