A: The official list is: three Roman factions - the Brutii, Julii and Scipii families - along with Carthage, Egypt, Seleucia, Parthia, the Greek Cities, the Gauls, the Germans and the Britons. The non-playable factions are: the Senate, Macedonia, Pontus, Armenia, Dacia, Numidia, Scythia, Spain, Thrace and the rebels - and what would a Total War game be without rebels? These decisions are based on what makes the game challenging and fun to play, not on trying to offend anyone! We have divided these into a set of broad 'cultures' who share architecture styles and units, but individual factions within each culture can still be added. We've had major arguments about exactly who and who isn't a 'Greek/Macedonian' at different times in history. :) This isn't quite a simple as it sounds, given Alexander's ability to conquer everywhere he fancied.

Republican I believe. Not sure of the game's start date, but it ends the year Augustus died.

I liked insanity. One of my generals liked to paint his servants blue and dance in the moonlight.

Was funny how some of the vices would give plusses on some stats. A lunatic might be less likely to run from battle, for instance.

Sometimes I'd spend hours just clicking on different generals, reading their vices and virtues. Ah, the enjoyment.

I think the multiplayer is just battles, a campaign map would take too long. And zerging quickly is precisely what gets armies killed. :p

Red - Julii
Lilac - Britons
Blue - Scipii
Green - Brutii
Brown with red Edging - Gauls
Dark Purple around Denmark - Germans
Light Purple far East - Parthians
White with blue Edging - Carthaginians
Yellow - Egyptians
Orange - Scythians (?)
Grey - Selucid Empire
Light Brown Spain - Iberians
Dark Brown in the Balkans - Dacians
Blue/Green East of Black Sea - Armenians
Black with orange Edging Greek Peninsular - Macedonians
Turquoise - Thracians
Tan with red Edging Turkey, Greece, Sicily - GCS
Dark Blue (south of Black sea) Pontic Empire.

Unlike the previous two games, there are no provences. Only cities. Only major cities are shown on this map. I think.

In the full game you can put units under the command of their officer, and they go around slicing people up as they see fit.

There are several mods around for the demo, play as Carthaginians which is linked somewhere in this thread, and my favourite, the very challenging play as Gauls, which I will link to later on.

Which difficulty were you trying it on?

I'm going to give it a go now. I'll try medium first.

You can't choose a difficulty in this mod, because it's the tutorial. Problem is, as the tutorial, it's been made rediculously easy for the Romans.

There's also a Gauls vs. Carth mod around, but I haven't found it.

Kinda enjoyed it but I found it a wee bit too easy. Dunno if I would buy the full game yet.
