Regardless, what I posted remains true joke or not. I'd be interested in people's thoughts on the stuff I posted about before, rather than puerile nonsense.

Right, so I've used one of the VIP beta keys and created an account. But can't see anywhere to download the client, do I have to wait for another email now?

I think current event is done, so yeah - think you need to wait for an email now.

As well as the VIP key you need the emailed invite which should point you in the direction of the dowload.
The current beta should have finished today (Friday) but I heard it has been extended for another day so possibly up to 6pm Saturday.

When I say £50, that's including the the first 3 months paid subs too, I think it's like £40 on the offical Rift website too.

Don't think you can get it cheaper then that, it is the CE after all.

And tbh, £50 seems pretty reasonable if it comes with 4 month sub.

Have 1 or 2 chronomancer mages in the group. Close to all life damage they do heals the group for 50 - 80% damage dealt. And all their casted heals turns to instants with the self buff they get and are on retardedly low cooldowns.

And iirc one of their spells heals the attacker(s) of the target to for a fair amount as well, unsure if that stack tho.

Couple that with a cleric and you have some serious healing going without neglecting that much DPS as the more DPS the chronomancer pulls the more they heal the group. Obviously there is a limit to what that can achieve but it would probably be pretty hard to kill such a group.

Personally i would mix the chronomancer soul with the archon soul for the group buffs/debuffs.

And yes you're right, it was a pretty retarded joke, my apologies.

Who's playing this btw? - I've applied to join a PvP guild on the EU servers - if anyone wishes to join, send a PM my way:) PvP servers sound much better than PvE servers tbh.

nice vid that. pvp looks decent, which would make a nice change for an mmo these days

like the fight 2-3min mark, seems well played groups can be hard to put down

thanks :).

the pvp is definitely fun, unfortunately we spent 90% of the last beta finding a setup that wasn't terrible or i would have had more good footage :D. too many soul combinations!

eksdee - I am tempted by this.
Can you talk lots about the pvp, how is it compared to DaoC, WoW, DCUO etc?

I've rolled a PvE server on beta, and there's only 'warfronts' which is basically the WAR instances, but on the real thing, im rolling a PvP server with a bunch of dudes and dudesses :) never tried it before, but it's being hyped, just cba with the PvEness of a PvE server grinding a mob non stop for hours! :)

I'm not saying it is grindy, it's not at all, quests seem to be the bomb atm, rank 20 after hmm what, 7 hours play time?

I've written two articles for Rift Junkies covering most of what I've experienced so far:

DAOC to Rift: A PVP Perspective - RiftJunkies.com - An Official Rift: Planes of Telara Fansite

Miri’s Take: Open World PVP and Balance - RiftJunkies.com - An Official Rift: Planes of Telara Fansite

If there are specific things you'd like to know, please fire away but I think those articles cover quite a lot of what there is to know. Broadly - PvP servers have PvP in any zone, all the time and then also battlegrounds. Group limit is 5. There is rumoured to be a large, open PvP zone at 50 but no one has any concrete information yet.

It's definitely not grindy. One of our players got to level 18 in 6 hours, and another char to 30 in 18 hours while also PvP'ing along the way. (You do get xp for PvPing, just not as much as PvE.)

This rift seems to be a mix of original wow ( pre expansions ) and WAR.

I doubt that if you like the daoc pvp / rvr you can even get used to this wow'ish type of skitty pvp.

The feel and flow of it all is just so diffrent, its like you love counterstrike pre 1.6 and then decide to play TF2, just isn't the same.

played around on champ last nite, kinda reminds me of GW. Gonna give a justicator a bash. None of the classes sound like me tbh.

This had me thinking tho.

When it came to DAoC's classes, the general feeling were that it were to many classes to choose from, and inevitably alot of them were laughed upon when it came to RvR.

I have a feeling that it will be the same with this game. It wont matter that we have all those souls available, ppl will find out what works best and shun everything else.

So in the end the surprise factor and diversity wont be there, and this will be especially true for pvp.

Which at the end of the day makes the remaining souls a big waste of time for the devs....

I think pretty much every class has been in a viable 8man setup in DAoC over the years if you think about it. Not everything was fotm at the same time of course, but that's just the nature of MMOs really.

I do see where you're coming from, there will always be fotm setups and such but at least in Rift there is more opportunity for variation.
